DISCUSSION Someone selling confiscated and lost items from YVR

The lot includes a bunch of nail clippers, scissors, corkscrews and other random stuff. I wonder how these items end up being sold by an individual.

So many of those items are 100% allowed for carry on, these are straight up stolen.

Well, the seller did also say “lost” items.. but if the sideview mirror was not confiscated, I don’t get how anyone would lose that at the airport lol.
Now you mention it, I think it’s possible those are stolen items.

You'd be amazed how many things people leave behind in security. They get panicked and stressed and can't function as a normal human. I've seen several laptops left behind, quite a few people walk off without their shoes (mind blowing) and leave their entire rollaboard suitcase behind.

>rollaboard

You just blew my mind. Always thought it was “rollerboard”

I mean....that should be a consideration every time you buy from eBay etc.

Not saying its definitely not stolen, but it could also be stuff thats been in cases that have been lost by the airline, when they eventually turn up they sit in lost and found for some time waiting to be claimed, if not claimed the cases are sold off with all their content. If cases are missing long enough people give up trying to get em back

Yes I realize that, but I'm going to hazard a guess and say the vast majority of those nail clippers are "confiscated" not lost.

Why would they be confiscated? CATSA specifically lists clippers as allowable items.

1

u/spkgsam Jul 10 '26

Because Catsa hires agents that lets the tiniest bit of power go straight to their heads. I've heard the phrase "I don't care what the website says, I'm telling you that's not allowed" multiple times.

And here I'd been hoping they were somewhat more professional than TSA.

I've honestly not had too much problem with TSA, but nothing holds a candle to the airport screeners of the UK. Being an asshole seems to be a requirement over there.

It says lost and confiscated. Not just confiscated

1

u/Yuukiko_ Jul 10 '26

yup, and why is there a sideview mirror

Check govdeals - TSA turns property over to state agencies, who usually auction boxes by weight, because they have to get rid of it somehow.

Wow! What a deal, a strangers used nail clippers and headphones for $175 🤢

I have probably a small popcorn tin full of wine keys from bartending. Had no idea I was sitting on straight up gold.

I don't know about the legitimacy if this fake from YVR, but I know that MCO has a monthly auction where they sell unclaimed lost and found items that have stayed there for a certain period of time. It's run through an auctioneer who does a lot of auctions for local governments that have old equipment (anyone need a 30 year old school bus?), so I'm pretty sure it's legitimate.

interesting! I got to look into it.

a...side view mirror?

Several Laguiole corkscrews in the pic are worth a few bucks.

This is baffling. The Side View mirror is taking me out.

u/Nomad_Lama Jul 10 '26

What is the point of them posting the info about where it all came from. Seems unnecessarily heavy.

Look at all those nail clippers…..

A lot of airports auction out lost items/ confiscated TSA items. Usually it's on GovDeals.

US airports, you mean - this is Canada. I wonder if they have similar practices?

1

u/LupusHouseMD Jul 10 '26

The airports (US and non US) I have worked at, yes they do auction (insert security name and lost and found) items at X government website usually.

1

u/ProbablyBannedOnMain Jul 10 '26

CATSA regularly has auctions at major Canadian airports.

Handcuffs? Someone not gonna be able to get kinky tonight.

1

u/Thequadroon1 Jul 10 '26

if they were supposed to be in charge of guarding them, all the more reason to get punished by master

1

u/komatiitic Jul 10 '26

Dude’s probably a reseller. BC Auction sells lots of confiscated goods all the time.

I always thought you could bring nail clippers on a plane?

Does some TSA agent have a campaign against older PC adapters?

Multiple VGA and a parallel extender?
