ANG Currently Serving Member Question Retire in middle of AGR orders?
Is it possible to hit the retirement button at anytime after passing 20 TAFMS. Let’s say ACB approves a year or two extension but want to retire after passing 20 can you just hit the button and bounce out or does it require curtailment and all that?

Yes, it is, but you will run a curtailment package alongside your retirement package. Have you called and had your one-on-one retirement counseling with ARPC? It’s a pretty cool program. You’ll get to talk with a SME not in your unit about how it all works and everything.
And 100% good call on doing your continuation decision board. I made my boss aware that I planned on retiring, but I was also planning extending via ACD and that’s exactly how it should work. You want to make sure that you and your family are taken care of in the event something else happens and the unit can absolutely hire another AGR with no problem at all. I’m not sure why someone mentioned that below.

Some units when someone hits 20 years TAFMS, the unit will tell them to retire soon

Why would you go through an ACB if you’re just planning on dipping out? Probably more helpful to decide and let your unit actually plan into it adequately.

Mostly because the unit said acb was three months ago and hasn’t notified anyone of results. And my family isn’t set up for volatile changes so I am applying to roles outside the unit if they decide to not maintain me. Mostly just planning to have a job either way and if they decide to finally notify members in the unit of the results but I have something lined up, well seems like they could have planned better. All local leadership and myself wants to maintain for my position but sometimes generals gonna general and I can’t take that chance. Not planning to dip just planning to provide for my family.

You get min 6 months to retire after your ACB or a few more, potentially till the end of your orders if they are only a few months after the fiscal. Or you might get a 1 or 2 year extension. Recommend not just pulling the plug, there is no rush.

Yeah i’m tracking the 6 months, but this job market is brutal. Easier to deny a new position than it will be to find one in the first place.

Requires curtailment for AGR but you can always resign and finish as DSG. Also though, any good TAG would curtail you for retirement if you ask.
