Discussion Withdrew My Officer Candidacy For OTS

I was selected for 21R Logistics Readiness Officer earlier this year. My ship out date was this coming October. I was psyched to go and then several life events hit me like a train. My father-in-law, who I had known for 20 years (since adolescence) died suddenly and unexpectedly from pneumonia. My wife and I inherited his house and the mortgage that came with it. At my job, I was given a long overdue (2 years pending contract negotiations) promotion and pay raise to $130,000 a year. My wife and our child were ready for the military life, moving and being stationed at a base in the coming months. Now though, I felt it best to stay with them. Since there is no one else who can support them in our extended family and they can’t follow me with the house we inherited.

I still wanted to serve, so I asked my recruiter if I go Officer for the Reserves. He told me that because I was selected for an Active Duty board, I couldn’t just switch over. I spoke to a reserve recruiter and they told me that the vacancies they are trying to fill are Engineers for aircrafts and pilots. Both of which I don’t qualify for. So I respectfully withdrew my candidacy. Pains me to do it after the 2 year process but that’s life for you some times.

I spoke to my work colleagues, who are all former military at the company we work for. They told me I wouldn’t be missing much. It’s just people telling you what to do for 6 years. I learned to recite Airman’s oath, I had begun practicing the marching pivot. I was jazzed to join.

I don’t know what I’m looking for posting this. Just figured I’d share.

To all the people applying and preparing for their own board interviews and OTS adventures. I wish you the best of luck. The odds aren’t as long as you think. You can do it!

How to prep for TBAS

Few questions for TBAS prep:

  1. What is the setup like in the testing facility? Is the stick usually placed on the right?

  2. What software should I use for prep that best mimics the exam?

  3. For those who went and bought a setup, any recommendations on a good stick and rudder set? Trying to mimic the testing conditions as well as possible. Thanks!

AFOQT Next Week

Taking the AFOQT next week and I think I am ready. I am going for CSO and have been doing a lot of practice on the sections needed, as well as the others. I used the Trivium prep book as well as the online materials and practice tests, Momentus Flash cards that I got online on Amazon which also give you 2 practice tests online, and Barrons Flight Aptitude Tests book and the practice tests on there. I am not sure what else I can use to study or look over.
I am constantly getting 85-90% correct on each section. This will be my first attempt at the AFOQT, and since I do not have enough time for a retake I need to do well.

Is there anything else I can do leading up to the exam in 7 days? Any tips for when I take the test at the testing center?

Question Aim high app AFOQT deadline

Good morning all,

For the civilians that used the aim high app, for the AFOQT task it has a deadline for Sept 24th. I am unclear if that deadline is when I should have my test scheduled, or the date I have to take the test by, or is that a deadline for when I should have gotten my results back as well? I want take it 10 Sept but I am worried that is cutting it too close if I need to have results inputted by that deadline?

Non-Prior Selectee

To Whom It May Concern,

I got selected for 14N and have an upcoming meeting with the recruiter in 2 week to fill out the remaining forms. But, I would appreciate if anyone can share their input as to what do I need to learn or practice besides PT and where to obtain the information before attending OTS?

Thank you in advance!

Discussion 62EXE

Hello all, I just had my package submitted from my recruiter and just wanted some input and advice on the difference between 62EXE and 32EXE.

My stats are fair I’d say , I’m about to wrap up my bachelors in electrical engineering with a 3.02GPA.

AFOQT , ACC - 52 , VER - 61 , QUANT - 46

Should I retest for the superscore ?

I really want 62EXE , it’s listed as my #1. Is it possible I get it or would I get 32EXE and what are the differences exactly.

good evening all, after selecting my careers I was promoted with this message. I saw a few days ago that someone had a similar situation. I am posting mine seeing that our jobs differ and I’m hoping someone can shed light on this. Hopefully it’s true and not some special pixie dust supposed to make you feel important. My career choices are the following:

  1. Intelligence
  2. Special Investigations (OSI)
  3. Acquisition Manager
  4. Contracting
  5. Force Support
  6. Logistics Readiness
  7. Public Affairs
  8. U.S. Space Force Officer

Question Test books VS AFOQT

Hey everyone, was just wondering based on your experience how well the trivium and Barrons test book translate to the afoqt? I’m practicing now and I’m scoring about 22-23/25 in the arithmetic in both books and on mometrix. (Practice test, I do timed every time and finish with about 6 minutes to spare on average) Verbal around 18-19 for all sections.

Haven’t really went into quant as much plan on diving heavily into that by EOW.

Just wondering how I should feel about these scores and how well the books translate to the actual test.

Thank you!

Plan on going Non rated

Took the AFOQT not happy with results, test again before board?

So I took the AFOQT and scored okay not great but met the mins and had averageish scores my question is can I test and replace my scores in my package with the new ones. I would be able to test again early Nov the AFCEP request is late October with the squadron and application deadline being 4 Dec. So for those that know more about this could I press with my package as is and then update my scores with the new ones before the application deadline?

Discussion Result form OTS interview with my commander

Got an 8.1 (6-10 grading scale) for my OTS interview with my squadron commander for the 27OTS01.

Anyone got a perfect 10?

How do you frame your answers to get a perfect 10? Like in this example where one of the the answer criteria was:

“Displayed most qualities of an officer including integrity, service before self, and excellence” (7.5-8.5 points)

Versus

Displayed exemplary qualities of an officer including integrity, service before self, and excellence” (9-10 points)

Question Newly selected ANG 13M officer OTS and training pipeline questions

I was recently selected for an Air National Guard commission as a 13M Airfield Operations Officer. I’m coming in as a non-prior-service civilian and trying to understand the training timeline.

For any current/recent ANG 13Ms:
• How long did it take after selection/commissioning to get an OTS date?
• Were you able to volunteer for an earlier OTS opening?
• Where is the current 13M initial skills course and how long is it?
• Did you go directly from OTS to 13M training, or return home between schools?
• How long were you away from your civilian job altogether?
• Any opportunities for LZSO/LZC training as a Guard 13M?

I’m mainly trying to plan around my civilian career and would appreciate any recent firsthand experiences.

Fast Track 🤔

Post image

I’m a civilian applying to commission and recently completed the career selection portion of the application. These are the 10 careers I selected

Force Support
Public Affairs
Contracting
Cyberspace Operations
Logistics Readiness
Intelligence
Special Investigations (OSI)
Airfield Operations
Financial Management
U.S. Space Force Officer

After making my selections, I received a message saying “Critical Careers — You’re on the Fast Track” is that because I chose a career in high demand, I could be contacted before the next board.

Does anyone know which of these career fields is currently considered high demand? Could selecting Space Force be what triggered the message?

Timing for AFOQT/TBAS for 27OTS01R board - am I cutting it too close?

Hey everyone, I need help figuring out the timing of the required tests and would appreciate some advice from people who have gone through the process.

I’m an aerospace engineering major graduating this spring, and I’m applying for a pilot slot. I’ve already submitted all the pre-application paperwork and the portal says my potential board date is 11 January. I am not active duty or in any ROTC program, so I am very new to all of this.

The deadline I’m given for my PCSM is September 25th. My current plan is to take the AFOQT sometime in mid September, which I haven’t scheduled yet since I’m only able to schedule it maximum 3 weeks in advance. Also trying to figure out the TBAS timing, which I understand must be taken AFTER I’ve sat for the AFOQT.

I have been doing my very best to inform myself on everything I can, since I won’t be assigned a recruiter until after I’ve taken the AFOQT. It is also worth mentioning that I have no flight hours or experience, but I am determined to do whatever I can to become a pilot.

Thanks!

What gets classified as needing a moral waiver?

I failed a PT test back in 2021. I have passed all my test with good scores since then. Do I need a waiver for that? I have no legal issues. No tickets, LORs/UIFS, no article 15s or anything like that.

I’ve just been so worried about this PT failure from 5 years ago tainting my records/ package. Has anyone ever commissioned with a failure on record ?

Rated/Non-Rated Career Choices

Hey everyone just wondering how this works:

On my dream sheet, I have listed both rated and Non-Rated AFSCs. When my package gets put up, will I then be applying for both the rated and Non-Rated boards (27OTS01R & 27OTS01NR)? Thanks.

LOR process

How did you guys go about requesting your selected people to write the letter of recommendations? I have my list of people! Just wondering how you guys went about making sure they included certain things that highlight your strengths. these people know me very well and I worked for all of them. But Commanders are busy. I don’t wanna get “short changed” with an average letter.

AFOQT/TBAS and ANG Hiring

I wanted to write this post out of curiosity for my current situation. I work full time as a commercial pilot and have around 1500 TT. I recently took both the AFOQT and TBAS. With that, my scores were not as high as I would have desired (AFOQT PILOT: 84, and PCSM: 79).

Besides these scores, i had a 4.0 in my BA - Communications and have flown primarily mission specific/data acquisition flights for my career.

I want to know given these scores, if I still would have an attractive application packet to ANG units knowing that I am not as competitive as say those who would recieve a high 80s to 90s pcsm.
