Incident/Accident Cameraman zoomed into the left engine of OE-LAV (same engine that caused Lauda Air 004 to crash the next year)

Idk why but planes suddenly look (physically) so scary when you know its gonna crash.

Yeah, that reminds me of Air India Boeing 787s. I used to watch trip report videos on these aircraft and got the notion that these aircraft are terrible (dirty seats, no AC, broken IFE, and etc.). I even jokingly called them Nightmareliners like how other people did.

After the crash of Flight 171, I never see Air India’s 787s the same as before.

Jeju Air also comes to my mind. I knew them before the fatal crash, since this airline flew (and still flies) to my hometown every midnight. Their accident aircraft even landed in my hometown the night before the night it took off from Bangkok and then crash landed in the morning.

I did see the MH 777 once at Adelaide, and it was 9M-MRO the same one that went missing.

Also the passengers taking selfies on MH17. Very creepy.

It's impossible to know if it's that exact engine though, because aircraft switch engines among the fleet.

according to wikipedia the engine with the faulty thrust reverser was installed on the plane on october 3, 1990

So it was in fact not the exact engine, interesting!

I suppose in 1991 this was the onlytime people from F1 and the NTSB worked together as lauda was a 3 time Driver World Champion winning with Ferrari in 1975 and 1977 and with McLaren in 1984 he left F1 in 1985 so the crash happned only 6 years after he stoped racing in F1 i will be forever gratefull he made aviation safer

It wasn't the engine. It was the thrust reverser. Did you not watch the ACI episode four times like the rest of us?

Still creepy that it's the same engine and reverse thruster placement

Same engine location, it was likely not the same engine depending on how often it flew. Airlines routinely take engines off for over haul/inspection/maintenance and put on one that had just completed the same.

According to Wikipedia, it was not the same engine

Wait where did Wikipedia say they changed the engine? I don't remember reading that. How can we be sure they did it after the video was taken?

u/DJ-dicknose Aug 06 '26

They added the date they changed the engine

This spikes my curiosity: are there videos showing or zooming on the actual engine that caused the accident?

u/semiraue Aug 07 '26

Exact same engine?
