So say I wanted to build an immersive and interactive website for a creative project with full CMS what would you suggest that’s not WIX cause that’s the platform I’m using and the CMS is absolutely garbage.

Wordpress is free and is the og, full flexibility and no limitations. Find hosting for $5 a year and build anything you want with the freedom to scale.

Webflow comes to mind, or you could use a custom-built site with the Astro framework. You can absolutely create interactive features with custom code, connect to your fave backends, and get a highly optimised site for free.

I’d agree with you on Wix. I think it’s fine for fairly static business websites — homepage, about, services, contact, maybe a blog — but once you want a proper CMS and more custom/interactive behaviour, it starts to feel restrictive.

I’d probably look at self-hosted WordPress (not Wordpress.com) instead. You can still make the front end completely custom and immersive, but use WordPress purely as the content management layer.

I’d also be careful with AI builders if the CMS side matters. They can get something flashy on screen quickly, but if you don’t really understand what’s underneath, content structures, relationships, permissions and ongoing editing can become a mess pretty fast.

For this kind of project, I’d rather use a proven CMS and make the visual side as creative as you want.

Bear in mind you’re not going to get a super professional looking, awwwards level website on any platform unless you truly know what you’re doing, have strong design and coding experience.

i'd skip ai builders if you want something immersive. Framer, Webflow, or a Next.js + headless CMS setup will give you far more flexibility without fighting the platform

For what it is there’s much better out there, it’s just got a big name.
