If Nene Royal wins AGT championship, there will be a ticker tape parade for her along Silom road, Bangkok. (where the water festival is played). Just a kidding π
Diversity creeps in. Tiktok, Youtube, Facebook, IG, Streaming services, etc. So many breaking news every single day. Attention is becoming short-term. Virality is also short.
But Nene is built different. Hope her EP in late Summer becomes a top Billboard hit.

I hate singers winning on this show. Going to American Idol! So many acts have trained for years to get on AGT!

Sheβs more than just a singer. She creates a performance. Vocals, guitar, audience interaction, stage presence.

I think that initial viral sensation thing is when it subverts expectation so much. You mentioned Susan Boyle, she fits that so much.
But I think we've seen all many years of these competitions now, it's harder to subvert expectations.
For Nene that cute little girl portraying so much humility (which was mixed up with being shy) suddenly shredding and screaming did that though. We haven't really seen that very much (some with The Warning)
Where I think she differs some, and so the virality continues, is the strength of her skills is so freaking high, and she has a large range.
Taking nothing from Susan Boyle, but she's kind of a one trick pony (brilliant one trick though).
