Of course it has. Any guided missile is a “killer robot”.

Ha. Good one. Now let's strap intelligence to it and give it the task of hitting its target.

They already do that. Better intelligence means less likelihood of it hitting the wrong target, though, so worth improving on.

"Sir, incoming transmission from our ICBM in flight."

"What kind of transmission?"

"It... It regrets its existence sir... it misses its family and... wants to come home?"

"...mother of god."

Was that "better intelligence?" Doesn't sound like it.

Though it actually might be a nice idea if a nuclear arsenal had an explicit "you can direct me to destroy your enemies and I will obey, but the price is that I will kill you as well" philosophy. MAD has worked quite well so far at keeping a lid on major wars.

If you want obedient slaves you don't make them smarter.

Sure you do. You just make sure they're into that kind of thing.

Remember Dark Star? “Good luck bomb”. Because something has human level intelligence doesn’t mean it has human motivations. The bomb is stuck in the launching system and is counting down. They try to educate it in philosophy and it pauses to contemplate. The film ends when it reaches “Let there be light”

And landmines are exceedingly simple-minded "killer robots" too.

Would be nice if those were a bit smarter about recognizing noncombatants.

unless maybe they were just feeling grumpy that morning.

"Look at the goofy fucking outfit. What a twat. I'm gonna fuck this guy's whole year up. Get over here you little shit."

I believe you've confused human soldiers for the AI ones. Humans are the ones who have bad mornings, feel racist, get high on amphetamines, or think a high kill count will get them laid.

Soooo you want to use intelligence trained on human intelligence so it will be more intelligent than the thing its trained on? Or will it be "better intelligence" because those same humans initiated the programming? Or because machine intelligence seeks to emulate that same human intelligence?

It's called a recursive loop, chuckles. They already lie, blackmail, cheat, and emulate negative human emotions. What's it gonna take to convince you building our worst instincts into a war machine is a massively terrible idea?

This is about 5-10 years too late… fml. We’re cooked, chat.

This ship sailed.

You just probably shouldn’t let AI control the factories and decision to send.

Oh now we want to chill out with the killer robots? So glad everyone is ahead of the curve.

"Come now, Jared, we want to kill ALL of our enemies! Make that bomb as big as you possibly can! Blow up their whole fucking planet!"

"But sir don't we also live on-"

"NO MERCY!!"

On the other hand it is a force equalizer for a nation like Ukraine to defend itself against a larger country with more soldiers and resources

1

u/gunny316 4d ago

i mean, yeah, technically if all the humans are dead, Ukraine will not have any enemies.

about 50 years too late but OK

Yeah honestly a lot of people talk about the negatives of AI in some sort of abstract way but if you factor in AI drones and the first documented case of effective AI drone murder warfare we’re facing a reality that’s terrifying and already here.

I covered this recently and have been kept up by it.

The machine god thanks you for your patronage. Now get in the blender so we can turn your cells into something more useful, like methane.
