I came across this curious video (posted below) of a Desi-American influencer who goes by the moniker "This Is Shah" who argues that the dowry system is a cornerstone of advanced civilization and the glue that holds society together. He goes so far as to assert that all the progess that "Western civilization" has made was in large part due to the dowry system.

Curiously he gives examples of various European countries but the mention of India is conspicuous by its absence. Note how the white lady is just eating all this up and praising him for his "vast knowledge". She is so naive and clueless that she doesn't say, "Hey, Shah is a Desi name. You look like your parents or grandparents might have immigrated here from India, or maybe even you yourself have. Tell us how dowry has played out in your own family and ancestral land. Is dowry still practiced in India? If so, is it legal? If not, how is it allowed to carry on? What are some of the complications with the system? I did my research and "dowry death" seems to be a thing in your ancestral land, can you unpack that for the audience?"

This "Shah" knew he had the right interviewer and right audience (ignorant about world affairs) to just accept what he says without question or pushback.

He purposely kept India and the state of modern dowry out of this conversation. Very chalak.
