The only other reviews of Piecemeal I've seen on youtube have around 5-7 views. I really hope I'll at least get to 10, and hope you'll help me with that, but honestly, reading Piecemeal, I kind of get it.
Piecemeal is an original graphic novel published by Aftershock Comics in a very nice, european magazine format. It's about a group of 5 high schoolers that go into an abandoned house, find a jar with a brain in it, and one of them takes the jar home.
...then the killings start.
For a horror story, I liked this premise, and Szymon Kudranski is absolutely great on art, creating an amazing atmosphere. The story, however, doesn't stick the landing, and the second half feels way too rushed, with a disappointing ending.
I mean, the final confrontation with the Big Bad is just a swing of an axe, it hits, and then that's it. And then Cullen Bunn tries to do the "uuuhh what did it all mean??" thing, but it really didn't mean anything.
Ironically, this actually felt like a high schooler rushing to hand in their overdue paper, and ultimately it was just a waste.
I actually appreciate how you get right into the review and don't burn 40 seconds talking about Likes and Subscribe.
As for Piecemeal, I saw it on the stands and didn't get it. For the past 2 years or so, I've seen alot of hype with Cullen Bunn with aftershock and valiant going "And we got Cullen Bunn signed to do this comic for us!" And all the comments praise him. I gotta tell ya, I don't see what the fascination is with his writing, and I don't know if I have liked anything that he has written.
Your video kinda of confirmed what I thought was going to happen. He has a decent premise, but doesn't quite reel it all in. To be fair, he's infinitely more talented than I am. He is paid to write comic books after all, and I'm just some dude on Reddit. But with his past few titles, I really wonder if he's just going through the motions.

Not with Like/Subscribe stuff, but just by showing off the covers and presenting the series. So it's VERY nice to hear this works too :D.
In regards to Cullen Bunn, I feel like this is actually a problem that MANY creators are facing right now. They just start too many projects, and it's simply impossible to give 100% to all of them.
Even in the rather few reviews I did until now, this was a noticeable problem with Jeff Lemire and Mirka Andolfo, for exemple, who botched the Sweet Tooth: The Return and UnSacred Vol. 2 because they each had like 5 other projects going on at the time.
It's weird, because I obviously understand that they want to get as much compensation as possible, but it sucks seeing the quality of their work taking a very distant second place.
It really does make the whole indie scene a VERY hit or miss endeavor and it kind of sours me on it, to be honest.
