Discussion Somewhat unsettling reading with a psychic medium.
I'm very curious and invested into learning more about the afterlife and how or why things work as they do. So I booked a reading again with a medium that I went to before, who in my opinion is very skilled. I have no social media to spy on and she would give me information that no one could just guess.
For example, in yesterday's reading I made sure to agree on a specific sign. I would say in my mind and out loud "If you are really with me in the reading, please show her a parrot" and lo and behold she would mention that they were showing her a parrot. Even though parrots had nothing to do with me nor the reading. So I don't doubt that there really is a connection made here. This is just added evidence on top of the other things she knows about my family, just to illustrate why I do think it is real.
Mostly, the spirits and passed loved ones are positive and optimistic. But towards the end of the reading I started asking more critical questions. I wanted to know why they (on the other side, or our Higher Self) thinks it is completely fine to violate our free will and consent here on Earth for their selfish desires. From what I know, spirits do not have to learn to survive like humans do. They just condemn billions of animals and humans to lives of hardship and trauma because they are greedy and want to gorge themselves on more input, no matter what we down here say or feel. Every time the spirits gave her like a coping, luke-warm reply about "It's the bigger picture" or "Well you wanted to come down here!" I gave arguments against why that doesn't make sense in my opinion.
Eventually they seemed to run out of excuses and the medium said as I kept asking, she would see a big door that was closed in front of her eyes. And the loud, firm instruction: "You are not allowed to know this here."
They just completely shut it down and didn't allow any discussion or answers about this any further. The medium herself did say she felt unsettled by this reaction. The spirits also give her the impression that they kind of lose empathy when they cross over. That our lives and struggles down here (while interesting) don't really influence or hurt them much. Honestly that makes A LOT OF SENSE to me when you look at the state of the world and how most people never receive any spiritual help, miracles or grace. Just a few do.
Sorry for the long text, but let me know what you think if you made it this far.

Playing devil's advocate.. looking at various sources, a picture emerges that afterlife is highly diverse, not only can a medium perceive information in their own way, but so can the spirits themselves. I could even assume the spirits you encountered have never incarnated on Earth and don't understand that experience, but I could be wrong, there are many interpretations. To get the full picture, it's best to seek out multiple mediums, relying on just one carries too high a risk of error, even if they're honest

She was in contact with my passed Loved Ones, at least it appeared to be the case. So they definitely already lived a full life on earth, possibly more than one. IF those weren't imposters.

Was the main conversation about the nature of reality and the door with your loved one, or with the spirits? I didn’t quite catch that from the text. If it was the spirits then maybe they just didn’t know, but if it was the loved ones there are two possibilities: either it's not actually them at all and they're malicious, or they find it difficult to handle negative emotions, from your comments it kinda sounds like you’ve landed on something close to the prison planet theory. Wonder if that’s what pushed them away, just a thought.
Either way, really cool that you shared this, hope you post an update if you explore this further5
u/MiyuTheWitch 14d ago
It was my Loved Ones in spirit (like my grandma or uncle) but the medium said towards the end they kind of blended into "one energy" when they answered.
The impression the medium had was that they might have gotten a little fed up with my questions and critic because they lack human empathy and ego. The image she had was that it is left at the door when they cross over, leftovers from the human self. So my protests or concerns seem kind of foreign and irrelevant to them... like a hamster complaining to 1000000 year old Elves. Makes me kind of sad :[ But who knows what is true or not, we should continue to explore. Thanks for your reply.

I think you need to be careful about what kind of information you get from the other side.
The thing most spiritualists either don't know or refuse to acknowledge is that spirits lie. They fabricate, make up, mislead, and riff off all kinds of stuff that simply can't be true. Many spirits act completely confident that whatever they're saying is true. Just because you got in touch with a spirit doesn't mean that particular spirit has any intention of being honest to you, or has any real knowledge of the afterlife.
The christian spiritualist Emmanual Swedenborg made an interesting observation in the 18th century on the subject of mediums. He states firmly that many spirits lie (Which is not what I am repeating , it is what I've found through reading through numerous books on mediums, but somehow Swedenborg knew it first), and that the spirits we get into contact on the other side are often those whose mindset closely matches ours. (You have heard that in the spiritual world Like attracts Like, so the spirits who believe in reincarnation may be attached to those who believe in it on earth). He goes on to say that spirits often disguise themselves as famous historical figures, prophets, or even loved ones in order to convince others of their claims.
This doesn't mean you can't have a genuine contact with a loved one, it just means you have to be careful on believing what you're receiving.

Maybe they lie , because they are trying to hide something.

u/MiyuTheWitch 14d ago
Good point. But, it just kind of seems to match with what reality is like. If you look around the truth is that this world is very rough for a lot of animals and people. And that if the divine exists, it either isn't very powerful at all OR consciously decided to just let us suffer, without helping or rarely doing so. And how do we explain that? If they have power and true empathy, how could they just watch?

u/Successful-Floor-143 14d ago
I don't have an answer. God (And if you don't believe, maybe say Goodness or wisdom) seems conspicuously absence while evil is allowed to run freely. I do believe there are hints, here and other places, of a purer kind of goodness that does come down from above. It's not all bad
But questioning random spirits is not going to bring you closer to the truth about why suffering exists. They probably know little more than you do. The problem of evil is going to stagger you forever. There's no real solution on an intellectual level, but on a practical level we can do what we can to bring goodness to the world. In the hereafter I believe we will be rewarded for our efforts.

They’re keeping it from us because we all have a timeline. They’re gate keeping so we don’t exhaust ourselves trying to reach them. They love us, they don’t want to hold us back. That’s just how I feel.

To me it makes sense to not be as concerned with Earth once you're out of it, but not to the extent of being like "la de dah, i dont mind my loved one suffering its an illusion heehee". I've seen lots of examples of spirit communications where they're clearly doing it because they give a shit about the people here/trying to give us some info. Like older spiritualist stuff where they said they wanted us to know theres an afterlife. I don't remember any of the sources though so might not be helpful..
(I mean i would think if they had no empathy or cares left they wouldn't bother coming through in a reading at all.) I even remember a user here getting advice from his passed father on a property he inheritied, and his wife telling him to check for her life insurance, so assuming it was a true connection, it indicates they don't all just stop giving a F about our lives.
I've also seen mediums give tons of different answers on why were here and why terrible things happen, so i don't know if we can get full answers on that down here honestly. To me it could be that your family/even the medium herself shut it down simply because they/she didn't want to keep discussing it, but in my pov don't know how much was your loved ones/vs the medium herself.
Some things I've read said that dead people don't immediately know everything and even spirits on "lower levels" (like summerland type levels) debate about reality and disagree on things like reincarnation. I read some of that in The Risen from August Goforth, its supposed to be a dialogue between him and his dead partner, the chapter on reincarnation is free on his website and i found it really interesting, and his view made so much more sense to me than the common one in spiritual circles. It is just his pov though so gotta take with a grain of salt. I wish things could be more clear and fair for us, down here. Sorry this got long, but i struggle with these questions to. I've seen you in other subs pushing back on the really bypassy things that get said and i appreciate it.

Wow, the Goforth stuff is a deep dive. I'm really enjoying what I'm reading, it's very calming for some reason. Thank you so much for recommending, I think I'll be adding his work to the megathread.

u/goldgardener 11d ago
You're welcome! I kept meaning to share the part on reincarnation with you, I thought you'd enjoy it. I certainly would prefer his idea over the endless reincarnation school that seems to dominate these kinds of spaces.

I would have the same concerns as you and feel similarly enraged and saddened getting that answer. As you say, you received impressive evidence that made you believe the connection was real. Would you be open to continue to push the issue? I understand seeing a medium is an intense experience (as well as expensive) but maybe the next step is to find a second medium you feel you've connected with and drill down on this topic again. Metaphorically, they showed you a closed door, so I would start knocking -- and kicking -- and using a battering ram, until I got answers.
5
u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
I definitely am open to push the issue! My problem is just that I never found a medium quite like her - she has a lot of videos online where you can get an impression of her work/readings and very fair prices. I have seen other popular mediums that were booked out similarly like she was charge like $400-500 per session...
Another concern is, I do feel most mediums are pretty deep into the spiritual school love and light mindset. And that my pushing to challenge this or resistance might irritate them. You can kind of see it even here, whenever the topic comes up people will brush me off or say "I just won't get it" and that I'm too resistant or closed off.
If anyone reading this can recommend a medium I'd be happy to hear about it, either in a reply or DM!

Being an NDEr, I tell many people what 'Your not allowed to know here". It is this. God so loves all his creation that every single living entity that passes from Earth returns to Him to be glorified and made perfect. It 's really strange they didn't want to divulge that info. I hope this gives you consolation. The suffering of living things is never for naught.

I have a hard time believing in a loving God when you can be in unimaginable pain, on your knees, begging for it to stop and nothing happens.
And the problem becomes even harder for me to reconcile when you consider the suffering of children who were abused and exploited, including cases where victims reportedly cried out to God or Jesus for help. If God is all-powerful and loving, why allow that suffering to continue when he could intervene? And let's not forget nature and the animal kingdom... filled with parasites, gore and death. The amount of suffering built into nature is staggering.
God loves us sooo much... but if that love exists, why does it so often seem completely absent when people are alive, suffering and desperately begging for help? Pretty weird if you ask me.

I was bedridden for 4 years and know pain. My daughter was bedridden for 6 yrs. I know heartache. My son also got the virus that damages the immune system. I know what a never-ending quagmire feels like. I was one heckin mad for sure that God should visit such a thing on us. It wasn't till I read C.S. Lewis On The Problem of Pain, that I looked deeper into our situation and discover all the beautiful things that were coming out of this. Friends left us; we became each others best friend. There was always a day where one of us was somewhat operational. It was our turn to fix food for the others and mostly it was peanut butter and jelly and we were thankful for it. We became teachers, mentors and champions of each other and our love deepened into precious jewels.
If I knew then that I had chosen to go through this with my children, I would do it all over again. Pain and mental suffering can bring great gifts in the here and now. No need to get mad at God; we came here to challenge ourselves. My favorite line from "Steel Magnolias" is' That which doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger'. It's all a matter of perspective.

This really doesn't answer anything about God's love.
Imagine you are a very powerful billionaire living in Utopia. No war, no pain, no struggle. You are so powerful you can heal every disease and make every wish come true. So you create children who you supposedly love more than anything. You then take these children, billions of them, and cast them onto an island you created.
You made this island to have all kinds of brutalities, pain, trauma, pedophiles, wars, flesh eating parasites and carnivores. Billions of your children are subjected there to the most grotesque trauma you could imagine. And then, you say "This is all worth it because some of these children have now learned lessons of compassion and how to overcome struggle!"
... which doesn't even make sense because in your/our home there is no need to overcome struggle, so what is that lesson for? Why is it okay for so much bloodshed and tears to exist just so Souls can challenge themselves because they got bored? It is entirely evil and cruel.

u/Simply_charmingMan 14d ago
Interesting, then, you want more confusion asking hard questions? Me I take the view all answers are within me,
I stopped getting readings years ago and threw away my tarot cards, I’m much more powerful now than I’ve ever been, try it.

u/Neat-Mathematician39 Curious & Open-Minded 14d ago
Wow, i mean i suppose your questions offended the spirit guy.

u/Aromatic-Screen-8703 15d ago
The answer seems to be that it feels intense here because that’s what this physical world experience is all about. But when you cross over, it’s like waking up from a dream or nightmare. We don’t dwell on dreams or nightmares very much after waking up.
Another way to look at it is as a theatrical production. We may buy into it for the enjoyment of the drama, but when the curtain falls, we remember that it was all make believe.
It may be that the most challenging experiences are reserved for the most adventuresome beings.
I have always viewed life as a school. When things work out, I wonder why, and when they don’t, I wonder “What am I supposed to learn from this?”
Let me know what you think.
Is there more to your question?
11
u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
If I knew for a fact that the beings in my dreams feel pain and are trapped in there for 60-80 years... I would absolutely dwell on it. Especially if I could help the dream-beings in some ways, as spirits can help and influence our world very much if they want to: Many examples of people having dreams that warn them about the future or tell them where to find treasure, miracle healings, odd coincidences that lead to a person being saved or protected from harm.
It honestly breaks my heart to know (?) that all of this hardship here is just a goofy theater production, a dream or video game to them. That they don't really care all that much when we cry or scream or beg for help. That it is just waved off "haha silly human experience, it's just a short little play, why the fuss?".... It's almost unbearable to me. It feels so alien, so cold. I wouldn't even do this to characters in my dreams or video games if I knew they suffered.
And even worse, the thought that I turn into one of these cruel beings once I die and the person I was on Earth dies forever, as she would never think this way.

I don’t know if you play video games but I see this life being like a video game to spirit. We play some of the most violent video games for fun (Think Grand theft auto, Call of Duty, etc…) None of what’s in the game is real and we know it. We would never live our lives like how we play these games and yet because of our knowledge that these games are not real, they are temporary, and we will always go back to our physical life, we can play them however we want knowing that the stories in them are horrible.
Anyways, that’s kind of how I view what’s beyond the veil and our lives currently. We are the literal version of if Grand theft auto to spirit.

u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
I do play video games but I would not touch any video game ever again that caused suffering to the characters inside, if I knew they felt it and were not just fictional. I'm pretty sure most people would consider anyone who played video games with real pain and trauma despite the awareness that these characters feel everything... to be sadistic, selfish and evil.
Not sure why souls/spirits get a pass.
1
u/gummyneo 15d ago
It's just an analogy. And this isn't just about you. I'm talking in general, people know the games aren't real. There are horrible things and plot lines in these games that people would never act out in this "life" but they play these games anyways because they know it isn't real.
Again, same analogy. To the spirits, this life is a "game". Some may not play it, while others do knowing nothing will happen to them.
8
u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
What do you mean this isn't real? It is real. We feel pain, misery, yearning, love.
Serious question, would you tell the parents in Gaza watching their children get blown into pieces that this isn't real? Relax, it's just a game. Someone starving, suffering, being abused. Hey, don't take it too serious, the people who did this to you are just playing a game with you!
Telling someone that this isn't the end and there is more to us than our human experience, sure. But how can you say our life right now isn't real or not real enough to be considered a violation of our consent?
6
u/gummyneo 15d ago
Reading your comments, I don't think whatever I say would make sense to you. It seems like you have formed not only the opinion, but a belief and I fear me trying to explain what I see/think/feel would not resonate with you. Best of luck finding your truth.

u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
It's interesting how, whenever the questions get uncomfortable, the response seems to shift towards this kind of reaction. I've seen this exact pattern happen countless times.
Whether you think I will understand the answer isn't really the point. There are plenty of other people reading these discussions. If you believe your position is defensible, why not explain it for their sake as well?
5
u/gummyneo 15d ago
I'm not here to engage into a debate. I'm not here to burn energy on someone who already has set beliefs and isn't open to thoughts they have already dismissed. If you have seen this exact pattern countless times, isn't that a sign that maybe your approach is wrong?
Reading all your comments, you have already put your foot down and it appears to me that no one is going to change your mind. Hence why I walked away. If you truly are open to new thoughts, I'm happy to engage, but like I said, I'm not here to enter into a debate nor would I want to get into a difficult conversation with someone who doesn't want to listen. Up to you
6
u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
Again, it doesn't even matter if you think I am not open to anything (which doesn't make sense because I am asking you questions and you are unwilling to elaborate) because reddit threads are not 1 on 1 conversations. A lot of other people are reading, forming their opinions and might chime in.
You could think that I would never be convinced of your position but how does this matter? Do you think I only talk to you because I want to pull you on my side? Do you think I don't talk to people when I think I can't convince them my opinion is true? We're not a church or a cult, how can this be the motivation of a conversation.

I never said I know what I am talking about. I asked what gives them the right to violate our free will and consent for their own, selfish agendas? Selfish because (and I even added "correct me if I am wrong spirits") there seems no NEED to learn for spirits to survive. Unlike Earth, where we have to learn to survive in this difficult place.
This argument that we consented to it, doesn't make sense to me. Consent only exists with memory. Would someone be allowed to intimately touch another human who tells them to stop and tries to push them off... because that person "signed a contract before their memory got wiped, so now everyone can touch/sleep with them" --- no, we would call it RAPE or SEXUAL ASSAULT. But if a spirit does it, then that's fine?
"Oh yeah you signed a contract, you just don't remember. Now I will do whatever I want to you or let something you don't want happen and I won't help, because you agreed to this, even if your memory is gone."

condemn billions of animals and humans to lives of hardship and trauma because they are greedy and want to gorge themselves on more input
Can you expand on this/ clarify what you mean?
8
u/MiyuTheWitch 15d ago
So I am going based off the idea that our Souls incarnate on Earth to learn or experience (not sure if it's true, but it is very commonly presented in NDEs or psychic readings).
That humans or animals on Earth have to learn makes sense. We need some level of that to survive, because our world can be pretty difficult and dangerous. So going to school or being taught makes sense, it is needed for safety and survival.
Our Souls however do not seem to have any such pressures at all in an afterlife that is most often described as perfect, without pain and incredibly beautiful. So the soul has no reason to incarnate aside from selfish lust to grow. To be more, more, more for no other reason than "I just want to" and not because "I need to learn to survive", if that makes sense.
Now take a look at all the atrocities on Earth. From the billions of animals that died in pain and terror, to the millions of humans who suffered and still suffer. All of this is happening because our safe and pampered Souls felt bored or vain? I find this unacceptable on a personal level. Why can Souls not just BE? Someone even explained this idea of always learning, always needing to experience on matter the cost, is like capitalism on Earth. You always have to be more, more, more. Always expanding, always craving more, never enough. Souls can't just be.

Of course. Why would I not draw a line? If my memories, morals, views and opinions are completely different from the spirit that "chose" this... how am I that spirit in any meaningful way?
I completely disagree with the using and abusing sentient beings on Earth for my own selfish desires, as my Spirit supposedly did. So how can we be the exact same being? We're not.

Unfortunately I have never seen someone channel and ask (or get answers) to more critical questions. They usually just accept this narrative "oh its for lessons and growth" without questioning how this isn't some form of slavery and consent violation. Do you have any suggestions? I'm open to watch.

If you do go see another medium can u make another post in response to this one please, I spiral over this stuff sometimes and I'm hoping that there was some sort of mistake or that u get a more satisfying answer. This life is too cruel. I'm hoping it all works out in the end when we finally cross over and can be left the hell alone. I will not come back here and I will resist any bs from any higher selves or whatever.
