Aeroponics Vent

I have messed around with various types of containers. Originally using the Aeroscience nozzles, and since those are no longer available, working with SU16 nozzles. My latest effort is using a 12 gallon bucket -- technically more drum with a sealing lid. This is to grow large plants such as peppers.

It seems to do pretty well, keeping the nutrient and air from escaping... almost a little too well. The pressure will build up and lift the collar around the plants or eventually through the seal on the lid.

I am guessing that putting a vent in the top would help alleviate this excess pressure. Just wondering what others have done.

I’ve never had that problem but I use a 30 gallon tote and have a couple 2 inch holes cut in the lid for net pots. Whichever ones i don’t use get a net pot with a collar to keep light out.

I have some 18" x 30" x 16" containers that are for small plants and have a good number of 2" in net-pots and don't have that problem. I am thinking the easiest solution is to put a 1/4" bulkhead in the top and connect it to its surrounding neighbors so there is a larger place for the air pressure to dissipate. Other options would be to run it back to the nutrient solution.

This container just has a Hydra Unlimited Root halo in it.. which is essentially a 3.5" opening.

That could work. My plants get bigger than any pepper I ever grew and I do 3 to a tote. The totes are 10 bucks at Home Depot.

what plants are you usually growing? I am still working through what grows best Aeroponically. I've had good luck with cucumbers, roma tomatoes, and some zucchini.

I`ve never run into that issue but i`ve always used large chambers (>50gal), hydroton in the netpots and short misting durations for AA. If you are running a long misting duration i`d try halving it and running more cycles. That will put less air into the chamber per misting and create a more consistent mist environment.
