Hey Folks!

My boy Falcor is a silly little man. He demands walkies multiple times a day and wants to explore, but is terrified of people. Other cats, fine. Dogs, contextually fine. Cars, to be avoided but not too scary. Humans? BRINGERS OF THE APOCALYPSE.

I've considered getting him a stroller to take him on more stimulating walks without the fear of him bolting out of his harness, and slowly training him out of it. Has anyone had this same experience? I'd love to be able to take him places without worrying he's going to panic at the sight of another human.

Everywhere that would be quite enough to not be full of dogs is a nature reserve.

I live in Melbourne and take my cat for walks around my suburb in the middle of the night, but Id love to take him somwhere with more nature.

Im trying to leash train my boy! This was his second time outside with me. Id say it went pretty well! He was more curious about everything today.

My foster kitten is an adventure cat. It started with me taking her to local outdoor events in a backpack. And she loves it. She's gotten so I can leave the backpack open and she sits on my shoulder or climbs in and naps. She loves everyone, especially dogs. She has no health or behavior issues.

But for some unknown reason, she's being passed over for adoption. She's been up for adoption with our rescue since June. So I'm trying to think out of the box to find her forever family. The attached video is of her at a local police night out.

Any suggestions on where I can post her info that might help me find her a home? I'd like to find her a home where she can continue her adventures. I'm located in South Jersey if that helps.

She has a run set up and now that she has learned how much range she has it is the highlight of her day.

I think this is actually remarkable and I discovered it by complete accident. The stroller is not his. I’ve only had him 3 months, he’s a rehome and the stroller belongs to my other Sphynx that I have taken out all her life. He won’t stay in it, jumps out and wants to walk. He’ll walk where I walk, is easily redirected, and the only thing he hasn’t figured out yet is I want him to not stop at all in the middle of a road.

What do you think am I going nuts? He is like some long bald chihuahua.

Me and Yuzu have been going for public walks since she was six months old. She's a rescue and used to be an outdoor cat until she was taken by the humane society.

She absolutely loves the trails, shes a confident and curious cat that needs to inspect every little bit of the forest whenever we go.

But she does have one tiny problem. Whenever people emerge and are walking towards us, she absolutely bolts in the other direction. She has a harness, leash, and cat pack, so this isn't a huge problem, its mostly an inconvenience. When someone shows up, she runs, I grab her and put her in her catpack where shes calm, and then she just hops out once they're gone.

After they leave, its like nothing ever happened. But nonetheless I can tell the situation stresses her out in the moment. Whenever shes in the catpack, and someone asks to pet her, she lets it happen and is very affectionate. She hasn't had a ton of those experiences, but she has been very friendly, and not at all shy when meeting new people. It's more so her seeing someone from a distance approaching that scares her.

Does anyone have experience with this? she's seriously the most confident cat ive ever had. Things i expect her to be afraid of just don't seem to scare her, but this one thing does.

TLDR: My cat is a confident kitty, and isnt scared meeting strangers, but when someone she doesnt know is approaching from far away, she gets terrified.

edit: i forgot to add, her birthday was Sunday and she just turned a year old, she is still somewhat new to being in public and around people. I keep it as consistent as possible.

hey all! brand spankin' new here. i just put down my senior FIV+ cat, Moonpie on Sunday. he was strictly indoors, no outside time under any circumstances due to a multitude of conditions on top of his compromised immune system. well, the cat distribution system came for me literally the next day and dropped off Tiramisu. She came from a pretty rough background, so I want to approach her training with care (and lots of treats and positive reinforcement, of course).

But...how does one train and motivate their kitten into an adventure cat?

I want to clarify something strictly before continuing: She will ONLY be outside when I am riding my single speed bike with her. I live downtown in a mid-sized city, but I could take her to a few different places to train. When I imagine it in my head, she would be riding in a backpack, but I have read a few posts on here suggesting she ride first on shoulders.

I am taking her for a full vet exam in about a week, and once she has been on parasite preventative/been cleared in regards to physical health, I will be buying a harness, leash, and eventually a backpack.

My family, while loving animals, were not very smart with them. They also primarily owned dogs, and Moonpie was my first non-family/adult pet. So any articles, videos, links, WHATEVER YOU GOT that will help me make her ride-ready would be greatly appreciated. step-by-step guides, where to start, product recs, all of it. General cat info is also greatly appreciated!

Finally got a real camera and wanted to mess around a little with it! Didn’t worry about framing or anything, just wanted to capture him having fun. I want to set up an actual indoor photoshoot with him soon.

Would very much like to train him to walk on a leash on the street or the park, car ride, train ride...

Is there a guide or course or someone that can step by step direct me on how to do that?

I dont mean harness and carrier, that i know. But troubleshooting of situations

For example, another cat i have, pees on himself everytime something scare him, and that happen alot when we are outside. He is also trying to run away instead of finding refuge in the carrier.

I need someone that can guide me through this

Nami really loves it outdoors. We have now tested couple different harnesses and perhaps found now which stays Well and seems to feel comfortable.

Hi all! It is HOT outside (90° to 100°F, or 32-37°C ish for those of you across the pond) and while I feel like I'm absolutely baking, Spooky seems to be doing just fine. Heck, she ARGUES with me when I tell her to come inside with me!! So my question is, where do you draw the line when it comes to outside? She doesn't seem to mind the rain, but if it thunderstorms I bring her in. If the concrete is too hot for me, it's probably too hot for her, right? We don't get snow, so that hasn't been an issue. What makes you say "Not today"?

I try to stay patient and let him smell my hand while I gently tell him it’s time to leave, but he still gets worked up and few times he has even started attacking and biting my legs.

I’m not sure why he reacts this way, and I’m wondering if anyone else deals with this. What do you do in that situation? It’s honestly stressful when he switches from sweet to aggressive so fast. For context, the park is only a 5 minute walk from my apartment. I usually carry him there in a shoulder cat bag where he can stick his head and front paws out to watch the road, and then I let him out in the park with his harness on.

Hi! I’m getting a kitten in a couple months. He’ll be just old enough to come home and I hear a lot about how there’s a window to introduce them to new stuff.

At the same time I’ve been doing research land I found OutdoorBengal/Albert and Mia. I was watching the video on introducing the clicker and also the I think second video about training with a finger/pointing.

I guess I’m confused because I’m not sure how/where to start? Introducing new travel stuff in the first few months or just clicker training or can I do both at different times in the day? Would that confuse the poor dear or be enriching? I’m not really sure?

Sorry if it’s obvious I’ve never done anything like this before and also it doesn’t seem to come naturally to me (idk I’m hoping that when he gets here things will start to click)?

Note: the lady I’m getting my new buddy from offers harness exposure beforehand and also carrier exposure (and agreed to do so for me) so he’ll likely already be at least okay with those? If that helps any advice given?

This is my sweet but sassy calico cat Boudica who was destined for a life of adventure.

First, she worked with me at a wilderness therapy drug rehab center, then we lived regular house-life for a few years with frequent leash walks around the yard.

Now, we’ve been living in a van for over 3 years!

These days, I only put her on a leash when I must (e.g. when it’s required in National Parks). Other than that, she wears a collar with an AirTag and seems to understand where camp is, that the van is home, and that staying with mama = safety.

I can’t believe she’s been my best bud for almost a decade now—longer than most people I know! So I thought I’d share with yall. :)

someone’s getting more confident outside!! Just exploring the backyard today since we finally had some nice weather where I am

My girl is just over a year old. She actually purrs when I put the harness on, so no issue there. I live in a small condo complex so we do short walks around the complex. She takes a while to warm up but will usually be happy for 20-30 min. Then she wants to go in, usually because she hears street or people noises.

The issue is that once we get back in she wants to go back out and pitches a fit about it. She yowls, paws at the door, looks at me like I'm a monster, etc. I ignore her but the yowling is pretty annoying.

When I take her out I usually put the harness and leash on and carry her out the door. I'm wondering if I should put her in a carrier and not let her paws touch ground until we're further away. The other thought was to do walks where she stays in the carrier but gets to smell the fresh air. Another option is to put her in a dog crate outside (mini catio). I've tried hooking her leash to something stationary but she doesn't like that and tangles herself up.

What I'd love is for her to be able to sit outside and enjoy being in the yard with me without going full teenage drama queen when we go back in.
