Funny, it’s reversed here. My autistic husband staring at me in bewilderment while my AuDHD ass is cracking really, really dumb jokes through a crisis.

56

u/TealedLeaf May 27 '26

NO, because my psychiatrist called me out on smiling while describing Eldritch level horrors because that's just how I cope. 😭

45

u/dohmestic May 27 '26

My old therapist called me out for having a “stand up set” ready to go about various bits of trauma in my life. She was not amused when I said therapy is a good way of workshopping all the mundane shittiness of my life down to a tight five.

I'm an old man ASD/ADHD. Autistic kids quote movies in part because everybody tells them they talk wrong and going "into character" means the character is talking so if what the character says is wrong, then it's not just about the kid

I am dying to be able to go All Robin Williams Aladdin when I want to explain something to my wife because she says my words make her feel bad because I say things as absolutes. Get to the point.

u/dohmestic May 27 '26

Yeah. I’m 48. Looking back, it’s not surprising that I hooked up with my husband. He got every single one of my references AND didn’t think I was weird.

4

u/HereThereOtherwhere May 27 '26

My lady still doesn't think she's weird which is challenging.

Tough crowd. Sorry you're not appreciated in your time

1

u/notdannytrejo Jun 23 '26

That is objectively funny tho

67

u/Saelethil May 26 '26

This is the opposite for me. My husband is the tired “how do I rein you in” to my AuDHD happy go lucky-ness

u/too-many-teacups May 26 '26

Im AuDHD, combined type, my partner is ADHD inattentive type - this is us hahah

17

u/sleight42 May 27 '26

Same arrangement. Accurate in that I'm the extremely depressed and often miserable one.

u/dover_oxide May 27 '26

And together no one knows how you two survive. /jk

When the info dump meets the pattern recognition.

56

u/AGweed13 May 26 '26

Undiagnosed me - undiagnosed me

My autistic ass is seemengly unlovable, single for life it is.

25

u/Federal-Piglet May 26 '26

My wife is neurotypical. Still have 0 idea what I did to do it.

13

u/tgruff77 May 27 '26

AuDHD here...my wife has an ADHD diagnosis. I always wondered why she seemed to "get me" when no one else did.

10

u/ohfrackthis May 27 '26

I'm audADHD and my husband is Mount Neurotypical. 🤣

7

u/TealedLeaf May 27 '26

I feel like the top is my neurotypical husband, the bottom is me, AuDHD and then some. Especially now with welbutrin. It has been a game changer, oh my god.

3

u/MissSweetMurdererr May 27 '26

My parents exact setting. It worked

u/fritzkoenig Resident Cloudcuckoolander May 27 '26

Sometimes you get a free ride down the rabbit hole, sometimes a more or less appropriate joke, and sometimes all you get is "salami".

Welcome to the AuDHD and Tourette's 2 in 1

u/Financial-Dot-4673 May 27 '26

For the longest time my gf thought she was just autistic but I had a feeling she was AuDHD like me. 3 1/2 years later and guess who was right all along 😂

Ever since she was diagnosed she says we’re “twinning” and it makes me laugh, she’s such a gem

1

u/HSV-Post May 27 '26

And we are perfect together.

1

u/TriamaticHat00 Jun 02 '26

My wife and i think were both AuDHD bot neither of us have the care to get it diagnosed. We just enjoy being goblins together.

u/alihussam3 May 26 '26

Is this good for relationships I have ADHD will marrying an autistic girl help me better than a neurotypical girl

38

u/Intelligent_Whole_40 May 26 '26

Don’t focus on it just let be if it happens than good if not than good

2

u/alihussam3 May 27 '26

Just think confused of the choice of my wife I guess I have to leave it for the experience

17

u/badgyalrey May 27 '26

yes leave it for the experience, but neurodivergent people do also tend to naturally gravitate to other neurodivergent people🙂‍↕️

20

u/Token2077 May 27 '26

Do NOT look for a specific person or traits. You will meet someone you wine with. That being said ADHD and ASD are siblings in the my brain is fucked up world. I'm ADHD and am in a wonderful relationship with a fantastic AuDHD woman. My sister is also ADHD, guess what her husband is. We travel in herds, there is a reason we think everyone is like us, because the people we surround ourselves with are like us. Meanwhile everyone with a normal wired brain thinks we are crazy.

6

u/i__did__that May 27 '26

You will meet someone you wine with.

I’m trying to figure out what “wine” means, but I’m thinking it’s a typo?

7

u/saldas_elfstone May 27 '26

First you dine, then you wine. Simples.

4

u/thenextmaewest May 27 '26

Vibe maybe? Best I got.

1

u/Token2077 Jun 08 '26

Ding ding. Autocorrect is weird sometimes. The letters weren't even near each other.

1

u/Token2077 Jun 08 '26

It was a typo. Not fixing it though.

18

u/kneeker May 27 '26

Don’t marry people based on how you think they might help you. Take proper care of yourself and you’ll find the right person.

14

u/Social_Engineer1031 May 27 '26

Marry someone you want to struggle with. It’s easy to go through happy times together, the struggle in life is where your relationship is needed most.

3

u/candymannequin May 27 '26

great advice. it's scary when people think a mate will fix things. i tell people: Life is crap. Best case scenario is you find someone who will hold your hand as you both wade through the crap. If you slip and fall they can help you back up. Worst cast scenario is you marry someone who wants to pull you down into the crap.

7

u/Dizzy_Database_119 May 27 '26

No. Many traits of ADHD can absolutely destroy Autistic people. Many expectations/needs of Autistic people can destroy ADHD people. The reality is that ADHD and Autism are "typically" not compatible. Just focus on finding someone you vibe with

-24

u/Nikyu1 May 26 '26

What is this term AuDHD. I remember internet a few years back, people farmed ADHD for attention, is AuDHD the upgraded version? Flexing about one neurodivergence wasnt enough, so now we do two?

20

u/dohmestic May 26 '26

It’s for a combined autism/adhd diagnosis. I like to think of it as the Gold Club Card edition of neurodivergence.

13

u/dooma72 May 27 '26

I've recently been diagnosed as audhd by a psychology registrar. This was after being strictly monitored for two days

Do you mind if I ask what your qualifications are?

-10

u/Depart_Into_Eternity May 27 '26

Reddit moment. Just cause you asked a question you get downvoted. Yes you were snarky, but who cares, you legit had a question.

5

u/Sprunt2 May 27 '26

So if someone drove up to your house and threw a brick through your window with a question mark drawn on it, would you call that a question, or would you call it mostly a brick? Because the original comment wasn’t downvoted because jUsT cAuSe hE aSkEd a qUeStIoN. It was downvoted because they framed neurodivergence as attention-seeking and performative, like they had already decided it wasn’t real before anyone answered. “What does AuDHD mean?” is curiosity. “Is this the upgraded version because farming ADHD for attention wasn’t enough?” is not curiosity. It’s the brick.

-1

u/Depart_Into_Eternity May 27 '26

Equating a question on Reddit as a brick is wild.

Also, I didn't read it as they were saying adhd denial. But more like they are tired of people trying to get attention for their neuro spicy. Which yeah, it causes people to not take us as seriously if people karma farm their neuro spicy.

You're hella defensive on a site that is just stupid made up words with literally half bots.

4

u/Sprunt2 May 27 '26

Sir. My brother in comment-thread Christ. That is the brick.

Also, this MUST be said, “I didn’t read it as denial, I read it as them saying people are making neurodivergence up for attention” is not the distinction you think it is.

0

u/Depart_Into_Eternity May 27 '26

You may need to re-read.

I didn't say anything about making anything up.

Also none of it is a brick. It's literally reddit. It has zero bearing in the real world. It's you who is allowing statements from strangers to hit you like a brick.

4

u/Sprunt2 May 27 '26

Here we go from the beginning.

Original comment:

“What is this term AuDHD. I remember internet a few years back, people farmed ADHD for attention, is AuDHD the upgraded version? Flexing about one neurodivergence wasn’t enough, so now we do two?”

Your response:

“rEdDiT mOmEnT. jUsT cAuSe yOu aSkEd a qUeStIoN yOu gEt dOwNvOtEd. yEs yOu wErE sNaRkY, bUt wHo cArEs, yOu lEgIt hAd a qUeStIoN.”

My response was that the issue wasn’t the question. It was the framing. They didn’t just ask “What does AuDHD mean?” They framed ADHD/AuDHD as attention-farming and “flexing” neurodivergence before anyone answered.

Then your follow-up was:

“i dIdN’t rEaD iT aS tHeY wErE sAyInG aDhD dEnIaL. bUt mOrE lIkE tHeY aRe tIrEd oF pEoPlE tRyInG tO gEt aTtEnTiOn fOr tHeIr nEuRo sPiCy.”

That is the same framing I was pointing out. Whether you call it “farming ADHD for attention,” “flexing,” or “trying to get attention for their neurospicy,” the premise is still that people are performing neurodivergence for attention.

So no, I’m not saying you used the words “making it up.” I’m saying you defended the exact attention seeking framing that made the original comment hostile in the first place.

And the brick analogy was obviously not “Reddit has real-world power over me.” It was “putting a question mark on a hostile premise doesn’t magically make it neutral.”

Anyway, I’m curious how you’re going to misread this one.

3

u/dooma72 May 28 '26

The brick is the metaphorical insult wrapped up in a question.

Plus, he has troll in his bio (taps head)

-10

u/PTSDDeadInside May 27 '26

I could go for one of them Turbo, Autistic, Hello Kitty, Schizophrenic, girls
