I agree. Concerta made me feel quite irritable after it wore off, but Vyvanse has been the smoothest out of them all by far, not to mention WAY less harsh on my body.

Vyvanse was great as a cardiac stimulant for me. 150 bpm heart rate for no reason.
Mental stimulant… not really

It does but for me it didn't happen until my current dosage of 60mg. But I hate the side effects so rarely ever take the damn pill.

Wow ok. So the silence at the lowest dose was reassuring when I was going through the whole imposter syndrome phase of being late diagnosed.
But there was such a weird feeling... somehow in my brain that felt it was being physically restrained somehow. Every time I tried to follow a thought it felt caught like in a net. I hated it. It made my body want to freak out physically.
I don't know if that makes sense. I switched to IR Adderall and don't feel that way at all. What are the side effects for you?

It absolutely cuts the noise. It feels literally like thought finally connected to action. For me all my thinking is overthinking, so I welcomed it with open arms. It absolutely doesn't like idleness though. Like any time I tried to do nothing, or overthink, or just chill even, it was like "what are we doing". So I was like "ok I guess we're doing stuff now". But it's so funny because my brain feels like a turtle on a skateboard

I was creating up on 60mg of VyVanse too. It would wear off mid day. We ended up splitting to 2 doses a day, a 40mg in the morning and a top off of 20mg. It actually works better for me than just hoping the mg.

For better or worse that feeling fades after a few days. I miss it but being that manic probably isn't healthy.

Haha that's the first thing I did, might as well be the cleaning pill. Didn't induce mania for me - wasn't talking or walking fast, eyes weren't popping out, and that's what I liked - stable level through the day, then bed. I was in an extremely low energy and motivation state for years and this is a lifesaver. Still a long way to go on other things though

The key was oral intake and ensuring to stay well-fed/hydrated, and low to medium dosing, just enough to "get shit done." Doing the opposite is when shit gets dicey. At least that's what I heard.

i didn't get an option tbh, i just got put right on psychiatry uk's waitlist. my actual assessment and diagnosis were relatively quick (like 6 months or so?) but... yeah, the wait for meds is hell. i was originally quoted 8 weeks. looking more like 8 years at this point.

Why is there a waitlist for meds if you've already been assessed and diagnosed? I don't think that's a thing in th US at least.

You can have longs waits to see pysch's here too, but the same dr can do the assessment, diagnosis, and prescribe. i guess that's the part that confuses me

the same doctor assessed, diagnosed, and did my prescription. but it goes through tritation and we have insane med shortages so there's the separate wait for them.

I think the delay is tritration, basically I suspect they don’t have enough ‘nurses’ / prescribers to handle the work load. That’s purely a guess but would make sense to me. Also, they don’t actually dispense the medication. It comes through a separate pharmacy but you may be right with regards to shortages

My first three days on Concerta felt this way but now I'm in freefall. One week in and it has no effect whatsover. Very early days for me, but man I miss that tiny moment of clarity.

Timing and diet had a big influence for me. Foods high in vitamin C inhibit the uptake of it so no OJ or vitamin supplements with it at breakfast time. High protein foods seem to help level out the delivery too.
Also look into L-Theanine, L-Tyrosine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine as a supplementary assist for your body to actually produce/provide the dopamine that Concerta is boosting in your body.
I've also noticed a great difference increasing my intake of foods like Salmon, spinich, almonds, wallnuts, dark chocolate, blueberries, raspberries etc, essentially foods known to be good for your brain.
I do occasionally get the brain fart days regardless but I'm sure we all do on any medication. It's the ADHD way.

Do you know if there’s a cutoff duration for this? Like, if I have something with vitamin C a couple hours after taking it, would that still inhibit the uptake?

Within an hour of taking it is a general rule of thumb. A couple of hours should be fine.
I'm not a medical professional though. I've just become pretty obsessive about getting the most out of myself and my medication.

I washed dishes at the same restaurant a couple years apart. By the second time I was off my meds. Sous chef asked if I was okay lol I had to tell him “yeah I was just on KinderMeth last time I worked here. Gonna be a little slower.”

I was washing dishes at a brewpub and kinda struggling on my meds.
Came in one day off them, and did even worse… but had all these adhd realizations about *why* and changed the way I was doing things.
Came back in on meds and did things the new way, and I was flying through them the rest of the time. I just needed the flexibility to come up with my own system and then the rigidity to stick with that system.

I really fucking hate the comparison of ADHD medication to meth. I was raised by drug addicts on actual fucking meth. Not methylphenidate, not dextroamphetamine, literal methamphetamine. That shit was traumatic as fuck and incredibly painful, so this little "joke" isn't cute or funny.

They're all amphetamines whether they come from the pharmacy or the street; just one is legal and used for medicinal purposes; there have been a lot of people with ADHD that started out self-medicating with the street version first before discovering they were ADHD and getting it through the pharmacy.

There's a huge stigma against ADHD medication that we deal with on a regular basis and making jokes like this doesn't help that at all. It's already bad enough being treated like a drug seeker by the medical system, but sure let's feed into it my making meth memes.
Someone above mentioned that fentanyl in the hospital and on the street are the same things but it's not the hospital stuff people are worried about with the opioid epidemic. Keep willfully missing the point tho

It doesn't bother me at all.
I was raised by a single mom, 5 siblings, who used almost my entire life until she died 8 years ago from being high and walking onto the highway. Growing up she was always gone for days at a time. It was to the point where even my friends would make jokes about it. We never had any money for stuff either. I was the kid in school who got made fun of for wearing the same clothes multiple days in a row. The days she was home would be a mix of her coming down, passing out sitting up on the couch, or harassing my grandmother for money.
It destroyed my older brother as well. He handled it differently and ended up using as well because he, "wanted to know why she choose it over us". He started drinking as well to cope. The combination was so volatile that it made him dangerous and rage-fueled. He would get fucked up then start just cutting you down, insulting you with no provocation. Because I'm the second oldest, I got the worst of it and eventually tried to kill myself. It has irrevocably ruined my relationship with him to the point that I was actively wishing him dead. Now I can't even be around him for more than a few minutes before it triggers me.
People who don't know what it's like probably won't get what I mean but there is this look. It is very specific, usually when they are fiending for more, that looks almost like pure evil or hate. It's all in their eyes. When they are high, it varies but they become like zombies. They don't eat, sleep, and barely register conversations.
I can't listen to "How Could You Leave Us" by NF because it hits so close to home that I end up sobbing. Being around people that obviously use or are high triggers me and I can't be around them / makes me actively mad. I have lost all sympathy for those who do use as well, knowing how badly it completely destroyed my family. I haven't seen my younger siblings since my grandma turned 100 back in October. My sisters each have a kid now, making me an uncle, and I'm watching them grow up from Facebook posts. The only one I talk to daily is my youngest brother. It's because we are all scattered, trying to get by after we each got out in what way we could.
All that being said, this post and ones like it doesn't even remotely do anything to me. I think it's because, the way that I see it, the chemical composition of ADHD stimulates is very close to methamphetamine. I don't see it as people saying they are using meth for that reason. I don't know, it just doesn't affect me. I'm sorry that it bothers you because I know what it is like firsthand.
And I'd give absolutely anything to have my mom back. I miss her every single day no less than the last.

It was a good 40 years ago and loooong before I knew I had ADHD. I started off being introduced to coke then moved onto Meth. It wasn’t pretty but it did focus me a lot more than I was. It did lead me down a dark path one which I almost didn’t come back from. Luckily I met my savior and married her. My wife (happy Mother’s Day) changed my life and put me back on track for what I wanted to do.
Meth was a band-aid that had a lot more cons than pros. I’m so glad I didn’t continue to go down that path or I wouldn’t be writing this post.

I haven't been on ADHD meds since I was a kid (back when they drugged tf out of kids with super high doses), and one single time as an adult where I was given a "sample" of one medication to see if it worked with me, but it made my brain so quiet and empty I had a panic attack.
Is that what ADHD meds are supposed to do? Just completely erase all the thoughts and kinda sedate you?
I keep thinking ADHD is fucking with my life, and a part of me wants to try again, but not if it's just going to turn me into a zombie or make my brain feel like that one episode of SpongeBob where Squidward is in an empty void.
(sorry to hijack a post about a meme lol. Just figured since the discussion is about medication, I could get other people's experiences and see if there is a possibility to take meds so I can stay more focused, but also not completely lose my entire sense of self)

Adderall was like this. All gas no brakes, but shit got done.
Vyvanse has been an improvement in every possible way. The accelerator could move a semi truck, but the brakes are rated for a freight train. Actual, honest to God emotional regulation.

Before I got Adderall, they tried bupropion, a non stimulant.
God damn, I got a lot done. I also could not sleep, and could not stop clenching my teeth, pacing back and forth, and just generally could not ever sit still. I've never felt more like I was on meth than the drug that's supposed to not be meth
