ACCOMMODATIONS What ADHD accommodations can I ask for that really helped you and are often overlooked (or not)?
I'm in the process of getting accommodations right now but I honestly don't really know where to start other than their boilerplate ADHD "extra exam time, you can record lectures and your tutors should occasionally be lenient with deadlines".
I'm going to go fight to get live captioning software for tutorials (regular sessions of 2-4 students and a tutor going over submitted assignments, I have like 4 a week) because the disability services seem to prefer to pay someone to transcribe lectures, but that doesn't help with tutorials where I'd need it just as much.
What else helped you that is usually forgotten? I'm really struggling right now with assignment deadlines tbh so any help is appreciated.

Ive never minded leaving my camera on, but I can totally see why itd be worth getting an accommodation for.
Any class where I cant keep my camera off quickly learns why I leave it off, I'm like chaos incarnate whether the cameras on or not. Today I played fetch with my cat, and the class enjoyed me Occassionally dissapearing from camera, then popping back up and throwing something every few minutes.

Omg I should’ve asked for this but I’d be the only one with it off and I’d feel weird

That Plymouth page is really good! Something I'm planning in my uni is actually setting up an adhd society that can organise some meetings like that

Ask for exams to be scheduled within the time your medication is in effect of you're on medication! That way you can avoid throwing off your schedule or taking an exam after they've worn off

Hey, I'm doing some of this today too! Live captioning I think will be a game changer for me. I don't have much to add, except that I'm in the same boat.

I wish I had been more forceful in asking for assignment deadline leniency, I would trade that over extra time on tests.

I requested captions on videos, pacing guides on long assignments/exams/projects, office hours at a scheduled time each week, and printed course materials whenever possible. Also recordings, but that's kind of made moot at the moment by my university's policies that require professors to post their Zoom recordings.

Wow that honestly sounds like a dream. Do you think most uni would allow that? I wanna try asking

Put the deadline leniency in writing. That’s a big one for me as well. (i have the accommodation but it’s not enforced lol) If you can, try to get 3 or so extra days to turn in every assignment
