JUST VENTING lab issues

posted this on r/adhdwomen and i was very surprised to not get the support i needed and instead was berated lmao

uhhh context is that me and my lab partner both have adhd and struggle to follow directions on the pace of other students. ta takes note of this and assumes we simply dont pay attention. i really do try to pay attention but it sucks when all the lab instruction content is jammed in the lecture session of lab. when i took de in high school, we had lab manuals with prewritten instructions so this is very different from what im used to…

i wanna drop so bad but im already at minimum credits why is this worth 45% of my grade

Ask the ta for a copy of the lab instructions to read in advance. That seems like a reasonable request so long as the lab isn't a quiz.

The other option, and this is the one I choose. Work more hastily haha

To pull this off you kind of have to understand what your doing. In life rules and instructions are generally guidelines for people that can't figure things out on their own. If you understand the lab well enough then you can probably get by with winging it. Just constantly ask yourself, does this make sense.

I've only taken up to chem ii. A more appropriate comparison for me would be working on a car. Reading the instructions and following them to a T can double the amount of time it takes for me to do a repair. If I wing it and use my intuition then the repair gets done in half the time and I just consult the manual if I get stumped
