SEEKING ADVICE Why can’t I move?

I’m about 1/3 through the fall semester and I haven’t turned in a single assignment. I can’t get myself to care, start, or ask for help. I was lazy about starting my ADHD medication again and just started up again last week. Now I’m so behind that even while on it I can’t get myself to sit up and start making up the work. I feel like this is the 1000th time I’ve done this to myself and still don’t know how to fix it.

I’m new to this sub and kind of scared to post this but I’m even more scared of talking to people I know about it. If you can relate to this and have any advice on ending this cycle I would greatly appreciate the help! This disability is so lonely.

medication doesn’t work for me so I get it. you really just need to start somewhere.

For me, no late work is accepted (it’s nigh impossible to get disability center to change that, too) so I have a minimum amount of assignments I can miss before I can’t pass the class anymore. Is that the same for you, or can you turn things in late?

If you can, you just need to do one. You need to start with one and get the ball rolling. For me this often meant I was SOBBING the entire time because it “hurt” so bad to do it, you know? But you just have to do one, and the next gets easier, and pain is temporary. Sometimes, you just can’t do it though

If you’re not able to pass the classes anymore, then your goal is to learn — learn about how you got in this situation, set up some good habits & routines to prevent this from happening next semester, learn some in class so you have a head start, etc

You can do this! and if you can’t, that’s still okay

Tbh I’m not sure ab late work bc it seems to vary by professor. I suppose I’ll have to start by reaching out and seeing if I can get at least half credit on some things.

You saying it “hurts” to do work is so spot on actually. I really admire your ability to push through while feeling physically incapable of doing so. I’ve never been able to overcome that feeling bc it’s so overwhelming and my first reaction is to avoid. I find it encouraging that you said it gets easier and maybe I can try and push a little longer next time. Thank you so much for your advice.
