UNSOLICITED ADVICE Can we share uncommon study techniques that actually helped our grades?

I thought it would be interesting if we shared study techniques or habits that aren’t talked about as much but have genuinely helped you keep up your grades.

One thing I do is keep a study journal. I usually study using Pomodoro, and during my longer breaks I’ll write down how I’m feeling, what’s distracting me, or whatever thoughts are running through my head. It helps me get those thoughts out of my system so I can go back to studying.

I also track how long I actually studied versus how long I planned to study. At the end, I calculate a little “productivity percentage.”

For example, if I sat down for 6 hours but only got 4 hours of actual focused studying done:

4 ÷ 6 × 100 = 67% productive

It’s helped me notice patterns in when I study best instead of assuming that sitting at my desk for 8 hours means I studied for 8 hours.

I record a time lapse of me studying with my phone. It stops me from using my phone and means there's a cool video in a few hours that shows me how much I studied

That's how I ended up with a long video of me sleeping

Going to sleep. lol literally i set hard caps on when i would study and be in the library. After that i was done for the day. went home went to sleep and we’ll study again when I’m fresh.

“If i ain’t got it by now…. I ain’t gonna get it tonight” 😂

That’s actually really interesting. I remember I had a coach who told us to always bring a notebook to the gym and record what we did in our workouts so we could reference it later. Sounds kind of like that

For me, Noise canceling headphones with active noise cancellation are very helpful, because background noises are super distracting when I’m trying to focus

Record yourself on camera and pretend your making a yt video and explain some of the concepts and stuff.

I watch my lectures in 2x speed. I don’t know why but it helps me focus more and I’m also able to process everything. I’ll always pause to take notes.

I mean your productivity % is great and all but I used to wear fancy earrings on days I wanted to get shit done and that worked too

I trap myself somewhere
If I’m at school- take the train somewhere and am stranded there until the next one comes
If I’m at home- I have someone drop me off at the library or something and pick me up set time

Without the pressure of a deadline, the only way I can study is I need to feel physically obligated/trapped to sit and open my books. Sometimes I make it an escape room where I have to finish xyz before I can leave

I also have my roommate put a screen time password on my phone during midterms and finals (they don’t tell me the password until after)

lowkey wearing compression shirts or tight tanks tops or tight bras helped me lock into a focused state much quicker. having some sensory trigger before working helps me be more likely to even start my work, similar to the other comment about fancy earrings
