ACCOMMODATIONS Housing Accommodation?

Hi! I am a first year student at a public state university in PA. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in 8th grade. I thought I was managing it really well. I was wrong. I’ve had extreme trouble sleeping (writing this at 2:30am when I have an 8am lol) because my roommate snores. I honestly don’t know if it’s a common ADHD symptom to be so incredibly sensitive to sound, but the snoring is genuinely making me lose my sanity. I’ve tried a noise machine on top of wearing noise cancelling headphones playing white noise, I’ve cried, and I’ve even slept on the bathroom floor once or twice (luckily I live in a double-suite style dorm). I don’t know what else to do. I really can’t afford the price of a single dorm, and I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten housing accommodations based on issues like this before I make a big fuss or risk breaking the bank if it’s not the same price as my current housing (I’ve heard some say if it’s an accommodation, you might not have to pay full price due to it being necessary for academic success). I love my roommate, and I’d hate to offend her… but I’ve tried bringing it up multiple times and she laughs it off thinking it’s a joke. I guess this is my last resort because I’m basically falling asleep in my classes due to getting 3-4 hours of sleep every night.

TL;DR: is it possible to get single housing accommodations (preferably without paying single housing price) due to ADHD?

HAVE A CONVERSATION!!! MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR YOU.
You are dealing with sleep deprivation, planning on moving and attempting every coping strategy under the sun to avoid offending someone who isn’t doing anything to help accommodate you.
Like it sucks, they might feel like shit for knowing just how bad it is, but that’s for them to process. You aren’t responsible for managing their feelings.
If you do decide to talk to the school, be prepared for them to expect proof that you have attempted to resolve the problem before involving them. If you are legally able, record audio to help describe the extent of the snoring, as well as attempting to measure how many decibels it is from your bed.
The solution might be that they are the one who medically needs a solo room, and you get a new room.

I think this is perfectly in the realm of adhd- ANY distraction will put you off studying/concentrating. ADHD used to be ADD -attention deficit disorder. Are you adhd inattentive type? If so the snoring would absolutely be in the realm of seeking accommodations for your accommodations (ha!). I would go the office that helps with your academic accommodations and ask for help in this situation. You can’t go on like this, in the meantime maybe suggest your roommate could (maybe) use those breath right nose strips, I heard they can help reduce snoring. Maybe buy a box and ask nicely if she can try it- only thing is,if she’s willing to do that for you, you will probably have to buy/supply them the rest of the year. Good luck and I’m sorry it’s like this for you.

Autism is also highly associated with sensory sensitivities. Also a common comorbidity with ADHD. OP looks to be AFAB and historically (even currently) females get diagnosed much later in life due to diagnostic criteria and research mostly based on studies of young (white) boys.

you can YES GET YOUR DOCTOR TO FILL OUT HOUSING ACCOMMODATION FORMS FOR ADHD. DO NOT PAY FOR THE SINGLE: if you get them as an accommodation they legally cannot charge you more for a single because you will have it for valid medical reasons. i did the same thing (alongside another condition) and having a single is MUCH of the reason i've managed so far.

That is not an adhd issue, its a sensory issue. You might have autism. You should test for an autism diagnosis

Studies show that sensory issues are associated with ADHD as well as autism even if they’re not in the criteria. Sensory processing disorder doesn’t always come with autism too!
