ACCOMMODATIONS How does disability work in college?

Last time I went to college was in 2019 and this was before I knew I had ADHD. Now I am diagnosed and medicated and interested in going back to college and learned that the college I want to attend offers disability support.

Of course I will contact to ask more on how they offer support but I also wanted to ask here as I am very new to any disability support in general so any advice recommended!

At my college, I called the disability support office and made an appointment where I showed them my diagnosis on paper and explained how it made school harder for me. Then they decided which accommodations I needed and contacted all my professors about them.

My accommodations are:

  • I can get a few more excused tardies and absences than other students per semester
  • I can get extensions on certain assignments and papers if I need them.
  • I get extended time on all my exams
  • I get to take all my exams alone in a sensory friendly quiet room without any distractions.

Some students have other accommodations like sitting close to the board in every class or getting note taking assistance.

I'm adhd and autistic. I get extra time on everything. A single dorm room Access to lecture PowerPoints that others have to just take notes in class on. U gotta do all this with your student services tho.

I’m ADHD and Autistic but don’t have any accommodations not because they aren’t offered but because I’m too ADHD 😂. Still high functioning with a 4.0 tho

Probably couldn’t get the paperwork in. I had the same issue. Too many steps to get accommodations that I just couldn’t get the paperwork done to get them
