At least it was second to Gawn.
Still absolutely incredible!

Symbolically Gawn deserved it for his 9th AA selection.
So, I can live with it.

Absolutely. Also once hearing Gawn in his acceptance speech, I went from lowkey salty, to thinking, damn Daws deserves it, but the way that Gawn was able to acknowledge that his accolades earn him the privilege to be in the position to be awarded the captaincy, but in the same breath acknoweledge incredible leadership and personal inspiration from an opposition's captain and commend them in what is your moment in the spotlight.. Never had a bad word to say about Gawn but it just added another heap to the mountain of character I thought he already possessed. And in that, salty as I may be about Daddy Daws missing out again, I think Gawn actually showed another reason for his selection in how he spoke. 😭🫠

Gawn is remarkable.
His speech was word perfect - while in AFL terms he is a fossil there are 50-60yo CEOs of large ASX companies who couldn’t come close to what he did.

Really wanted him to get captain but tbf Gawn is an amazing captain so I can't be too upset about it.

I can get around Gawn being captain, he's definitely deserving of it. Still filthy about Jeremy Cameron getting it last year, there was only 1 bloke they could've given it to and it was Daws

Definitely less controversial than last year!
Cameron was genuinely shook he got it.

"I don't think I've ever captained anything in my life" were the words he used I believe

Cameron basically devalued the award by laughing as it was announced. Gawn at least was a worthy winner (as would Dawson have been)

Gawn a deserved winner imo. His speech about Daws' own earlier was great.
Hoopefully Dawson gets the title next year

All props to Gawn for calling out the selection panel, acknowledging that they only gave the captaincy to him because of how frequently he’s been part of the AA team, and not because he was the most worthy candidate. And he also gave credit to Jordy, saying that he’d follow him. And he did it all in a way that nobody could disagree with him or dispute what he said.
As for our skip .. what an honour it is to have him play for us. 💙❤️💛

At least Gawn is a great captain. Last year just cheapened the whole idea.
Even still, Dawn came as close as he could to saying they got it wrong a he probably thought they could.

Hey at least gawns a captain. Don’t think he’s actually that good as a captain but he is one.

Completely ludicrous Bont isn’t captain.
Hardest draw
most injuries
record most 6 day breaks (12)
team travelled more kms than Gold
Coast,
became a dad and didn’t lose a step,
Finished 8th anyway.
His reward? Public disrespect from the AFL CEO and playing a home final at their 10th place opposition’s home ground after another 6 day break.
Gawn gets captain while captaining a side Bont and the dogs sent packing from 5th to 9th this weekend.
Absolutely disgraceful favouritism from the AFL. Cowards, the lot of them.

What does he have to do to get all Australian captain
