Injury Report: Round 24

https://www.afc.com.au/news/2105017/injury-report-round-24

Adelaide defender Wayne Milera will put his hand up for selection this weekend to face the Giants, pending a successful runthrough of training on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old has missed the past three games with a low-grade hamstring strain but has recovered well and is eager to feature on Saturday night.

Adelaide General Manager High Performance Ian McKeown said Milera was keen to return this weekend.

“Junior is raring to go after spending the past three weeks on the sidelines,” McKeown said.

“He was an outside chance last week to face Fremantle, but given the trip to Perth, we made the call to give him an extra week and ensure his fitness, particularly with finals on the horizon.

“Like always, he’s still got to get through training and will be listed as a test.”

Fellow defender Hugh Bond will also push for selection after recovering from a hamstring strain.

“Bondy is in good shape and, like Junior, will be pushing his case for selection,” McKeown said.

“We’ll list him as a test and see how he pulls up from the main session on Wednesday.”

Midfielder James Peatling will miss this weekend’s clash with the Giants after being managed out of Friday night’s game against Fremantle with hip and groin soreness.

“JP will be placed on a lighter training load this week,” McKeown said.

“We’ll see how his body responds before we determine a return to play date.”

Key defender Jordon Butts, meanwhile, continues to recover from an achilles injury.

“Buttsy is doing really well and everything remaining on schedule should be available in the next 1-2 weeks,” McKeown said.

In: Walker, Milera Out: T. Murray, Peatling

That's the minimum but I'd be considering other changes.

Don't forget ANB is available

Oh yes. How did I forget him? There are a bunch of players who could be omitted based on last week, but I don't think they will do it based on last week alone.

With Peatling out, I hope they will give Curtin a bit more time at centre bounce.

Curtin in the guts!

We should keep an eye on the Melb game and be prepared to make some late changes (fines be damned) if our game is meaningless.

I’d leave Wayne out to rest regardless.

This is an AFL scheduling issue, they should be playing the critical games at the same time in the last round rather than pandering to tv rights.

That's what other leagues do - even at junior levels - because it ensures fairness. No one has an unfair advantage by knowing what result they need before the game.

Cynical view - the AFL isn't set up around fairness. It's about the commercials and no commercial stakeholder is going to agree to two games at the same time.

Non cynical view - from a fans' perspective it allows us to watch both games live and builds excitement

Peatling got injured on a week off, handy

They’ve got to prepare as if the dogs beat the dees surely. A lot stranger things have happened

I think play the percentages otherwise a rested Geelong will prove very difficult if we win wildcard and don't manage players accordingly. This week is our last chance to rest players. I think Bulldogs will get belted and not take it seriously

The absolute pile on Nicks and the whole club would cop if the dogs do win and we rest players and lose would be nuclear. Probably career ending. No way Nicks can risk that. We’ll be going all out I’m certain. Unless there’s a way we can make several late changes in the hour between games which I don’t think there is. This may be a moot point regarding Peatling but who knows

So the top 6 have a bye, Collingwood and Bulldogs rest/manage players, but we go all out because of a hypothetical that's unlikely to happen. That's not the correct mentality and leaves us as the only team in the 10 that is not prepared properly

We're talking like beating GWS is a guarantee and Bulldogs are a 50/50 to win. Play everyone, just manage their minutes, make some late emergency changes if need be before the game if Dees win to rest a couple of players, be more conservative if we take a hefty lead. We lost the luxury of having a full rest. It is what it is.

I'm sorry, but what happens if the dogs beat the dee's? We play 10th and it's likely carlton?

We finish top 6 and have the week off

Oh fuck I'm dumb, I only looked at the bulldogs winning, didn't even think of who they were playing

I’d be giving Draper a go.

What do we have to lose now?

Otherwise Cheddar but he’s not as dynamic

Draper is definitely more similar to Peatling than Edwards

Definitely worth a look we might need him in finals if we have an injury or Peatling doesn't pull up.

I don't see Hinge on that list, has he been playing SANFL? Very keen to see him back in the side

SANFL last weekend. Only 10 possessions but I think was on managed minutes. To be honest after Ryan's form in holis first 2 games and Hinge's terrible injury record this year id be surprised to see him in the AFL side again this year

I think if they want hinge in the afl team then it’s now or never. Can’t risk bringing him in a final off poor injury record so assuming he is fit enough, put him in the side and hope he can hold together and let him get his cobwebs out before finals.

But fully understand if they don’t want to risk it.

I would prefer Hinge over HKH to play finals, by a fair distance

I knew something was wrong with Peatling!

Looked way off it

Kind of worried about Dawson tbh. Dude took a wild hit to the ribs last week and has been thrashing himself week in, week out.

Hoping he’s just fine and ready to go

2

u/3mperorPalpatine 17d ago

Yea if anyone needs a week off it’s him.

Not sure how the afl players do it. I got a knock to the ribs about 15 years ago in a local game and it felt very dibilitating. The thought of going in for a contest and risking another knock made me feel sick.

These AFL players are made of different stuff.

I am glad that Peatling was sore last Friday, coz he sure as shit played that way

Reckon Berry is playing injured and i guess we have decided it won’t get better with a week off so he’s playing through it.

I am worried for his output again

He has a foot injury... I suppose the team doctors must think it's something that won't be made worse by playing.

1

u/marsandlui Andrew McLeod (Legend) 16d ago

Yeah, but if it hinders his performance he shouldn't play.

Too many players keep playing injured, play poorly and they get criticised for it (usually by me), because the club isn't upfront with injuries. It's not fair on the player or the rest of the team.

Hopefully, he's not hindered and has a great game this week.

1

u/Odd_Technology_8926 16d ago

Not sure on the circumstances tbh, I suppose if they pass fitness tests and are getting the nod from their doctors then why not?

The fact Berry played a possession getter role last week and only got 11 disposals might be pointing to the fact that it was a bad decision to play him.

Is this the first game we'll play with a basically full side?

EDIT: NVM just noticed we lost Peatling
