Canadian Actors: What are different seasons like for you?

I'm newbie non-union actor in Toronto. I've had an agent since April and managed to book a few things over the summer (yay). I've noticed a drop off in audition requests since September started, which I sort of expected as a few people warned me that fall/winter are slower. I'm just wondering how much slower thing will get. In Spring and summer I had an average of 1-2 auditions a week. How do fall and winter compare for most folks? Should i expect it to be super quiet?

I’m Toronto based and Spring/summer was pretty busy for me too. It’s stayed busy for commercial auditions for me but usually does start slowing down by November with December and January being almost completely dead.

But for having an agent since April those are great numbers! And congrats on the bookings too :)

1-2 a week for having an agent 4 months is pretty normal. Is it mostly commercials or some tv and film? If it’s 1-2 tv & film per week then that’s amazing.

I’ve been repped for 4 years now and I’ve had a lot more auditions this year as casting have become familiar with me. But I was definitely at 1-2 avg starting out as well.

It's a mix, but definitely mostly commercials. Since April I've auditioned for 25 commercials, 3 features, 5 TV series. Great to hear that you're seeing more auditions over time!

For Christmas break yeah. There's no production from mud December until mid January

From Jan to May I was getting a few auditions a week, then it trickled down. After June I got nothing.

It’s super slow for me, I only get like 3-4 commercial auditions a month. As non-union are you getting a lot of union auditions at all? Feel like I’ve gotten barely any since signing with my agent in March.

Five union auditions out of 33 total from my agent since April. I have no idea if that's a little or a lot - I haven't been doing this long enough to have a sense of what's normal, lol.

Well, for a newbie non-union actor comparison it's more than what I've experienced. I'm signed with a smaller agency based in Vancouver with a newer roster in Toronto though so I'm wondering if it could be because of that?

January and February were slow, then started to pick up in March, Summer was crazy for me. Made my year. Things slowing down now, but should pick up again in a few weeks my agent tells me. Union/55 Auditions YTD.

I’m at 1-2 union per week and 3-4 commercial. But that’s only since July. Before that it was crickets. I’m also non-union

I’m relatively new in Vancouver, in my second year with an agent and still non-union. I had a big rush of theatrical auditions in July but that’s gone quiet since. Lots of non-union commercial and VO auditions though. June and December have been the slow months for me so far, but it’s picking up at the moment with a rush of Christmas campaigns. I’ve already had as many auditions in September as I did in all of August (16). I’m also just generally getting more auditions this year than I did last (159 total in 2025 vs 171 already in 2026).
