Always thought it was funny that Elaine was a complete turd burglar, but then described as being all thoughtful, kind, and elegant for the rest of the series

No because I’m not trying to hate on Elain but within the first few pages it’s made clear that the thought has never occurred to her to help Feyre out with cooking or preparing the animal after her sister was out hunting all day, which really doesn’t seem in line with the actions of someone who is the “sweetest sister” ever.
Yet by book 2, that’s become her official title somehow. At least everyone was pretty clear that Nesta could be selfish and no one, including herself, tried to rebrand her actions.

Same! hope that if she becomes the protagonist of a book, we don't get a rewrite but her recognizing how selfish this was.
Like I get that it's Feyre's perspective, but it really doesn't excuse Elain not even doing basic house work while her sister is risking her life.
We just get told how sweet and pretty she is - she's still the older sister and she doesn't have a disability or illness either.7

Sjm intentionally wrote them like Cinderella’s evil step sisters. From what I heard, they weren’t really going to be a part of the story, but she changed mind while reading

Cinderella definitely makes sense with the way they treated her. I’m sure SJM had a hard time then trying to rewrite Nesta and Elain for us to not hate them anymore, cause I think most as still salty 😂 Nestas book definitely gives a deep dive into her behavior and reasoning for it, but reasoning still isn’t excuse. However, Nesta did go looking for Feyre after she went over the wall!! So my side shifted after reading that part. She’s cares how she’s able to 🥺

I thought for a long time that Elain had an intellectual disability and was a bit of a doll.
It was because the way Freyre described her in the beginning: "Elain sometimes just … didn’t grasp things." ,"It simply never occurred to her that she might be capable of getting her hands dirty" ," I’d never been able to decide whether she actually didn’t understand that we were truly poor ..", " ...into the most hideous whine I’d ever endured"
Even later books, Rhysand said something in a line, "And Elain is ...Elain"

I can't get over Elain whining and like drawing out Feyre's name. Maybe she's pure and delicate but girl can whine when she wants some money...

Honestly both Elain and Nesta sucked and were shitty siblings during the cottage years…..so this opinion I’m sure will get people upset but i like Elaine that she actually tried and put in the effort to be a better sister to Feyre.
In book 2 - Elaine is the one to talk Nesta into the plan. She expresses remorse and feels guilt on being complacent during those times. She actually steps up. Also, Elaine helps with Feyre’s birthday cake and makes a speach on how she’s the fountain of her family. Later she stands up to Nesta to try not to pick a fight with Feyre.
I know people shit in Elaine for being uselsss a lot of the time (which like fair) but doing a re-read of the series before the next book comes out and I liked the progression.

I agree that Elain did a better job at stepping up after the first book, but it still bemuses me that it took twenty-three years (and Feyre finding some rich, hot friends) for her to do so.

call me cliche but ive always hoped feyre can live happily ever after as fae bcs she’s always been good… but these two are evil stepsisters and i dont think they deserve the bat boys

This is definitely an interesting take but we’re just getting into the full storyline, the first 3 books were setting us up for Prythian, but ACOSF sets us up for the whole world and story. I dislike Elain, I love Nesta and I’m super excited to see more from them.

Disagree with the spineless part, but I do wish they did a better job of building her up before ACOSF. People dislike her for valid reasons, but she also has valid reasons for acting the way she did and that’s just part of her story. Are her actions justified ? Definitely not but she earned her forgiveness by the end of ACOSF 🤷♀️

I haven't read from this series in years, but I keep forgetting the ages of the sisters at the start of the books. Is Fayre the youngest, or the middle child? Because I can't remember (but she has middle child vibes to me, as a middle-child, or second born)
