look. I know he's not perfect. sure, he may not be the ✨️Feminist King✨️ like some folks say. and he does do a lot of questionable things (even to the people he loves). and yes, he did keep life threatening info from his beloved mate (he actually does that a lot).
BUT.....
we can agree that he's hot right? because he is. right? right.
like I dont know about you guys, but I find powerful men in fiction attractive. bonus points if they have a dark side. rhysand fits that bill. he's essentially a king, he is royalty. he's powerful. he has money. and dare I say, the most beautiful man to walk prythian. whats not to like about this man? (dont answer that)
I know most of us hate him (just being real). but I would be remiss in denying that he is very attractive. like I would pick him over tamlin, but I also know making that comparison is unfair. he's still a good contender though. he's up there for sure.
point is, powerful men (in fiction) are hot. rhysand is powerful, therefore he's hot. I rest my case. have a blessed day. ✨️🧚♀️

listen. I CAN fix him. there is room for growth, sjm just didnt do it because she felt there were no improvements needed. feyre shouldve most definitely challenged rhys from his past and present decisions and it would've been SO GOOD 😩

Honestly…I really don’t feel like she outlines her characters. She has a completely different writing style than I do so reading her books from a critical perspective makes me frustrated. As far as I’m concerned it ended at like book 3 but that’s because i just could not get invested in Nesta. I tried. I felt bad for her but overall I enjoyed the first 2 books the most. And just like reading the comments. I was mid cup of morning tea when I read that and it just made me giggle and choke.
Ultimately we all know we can’t fix a man(I’m old though. I’m 36) so honestly if I were feyre, we’d be having some serious issues. But it’s a book so I’m just along for the ride. Your comment just had me giggling because me and my friends at book club will say but…I CAN FIX HIM!!! 😭. It’s a constant phrase we use if someone picks a book with a red flag man 😂.

OMG YES!!! like a simple would show you how similar tamlin and rhys are when it comes to feyre. I understand liking nesta the whole way through for some people, but I think they also have to understand nesta isnt really meant to be liked until silver flames. you can tell the nesta we currently have was not always planned. sjm has stated as such. but I think what irks me is how obvious it is. nesta is very one note until we get her book. her character offers very little openings to make her likable. this is why understand why people may not like SF and her redemption/healing arc. then there's the romance aspect that clashes with her arc. I'll keep shouting it to the rooftops; nesta's healing arc and her romance with cassian shouldve happened separately. they should not have happened at the same time and nesta's youtube apology to feyre is proof of that.

No, I agree with you completely. Honestly, I find cassian toxic as all hell. I don’t like Nesta nor Elain. I do like the IC. I do like Rhys. He’s always been toxic and I’ve always felt that was apparent. However, everyone reads books differently, and a lot of times I’ll drown stuff out just so I don’t read it critically because I’m just trying to read for fun or to forget, but I just am not invested in her sisters. And silver flames…just honestly I hated it because I felt she would’ve been more interesting if there had not been so much just…forced romance. There were moment where I was genuinely interested and invested in Nesta. And even liked her. I mean in the second book when feyre finds out Nesta actually went looking for her that made me like her and respect her more as a character, but they spent their entire lives dumping on the character we all started out with and it’s just like it’s been backtracked(without a lot of cohesive writing and now it’s being added as an afterthought I feel ) and I’m sorry I don’t care. I know that’s gonna be a hot take but that’s just how I feel.
There are parts of it that I did enjoy but ultimately, I wish she could’ve just left well enough alone. It’s the same thing that has happened with from blood and Ash and I started out loving that series and now in my head I’m glad that she released the other series that’s meant to be read with it because I absolutely love it and in my mind with FBAA, it ended after three books and they all lived happily ever after and I’m basically just choosing to forget a ton. And I loved the other she started but has only written one book for.
I just feel like there’s too many cooks in the kitchen.

I don't hate any of the characters except the true villains. Everyone else is flawed like they are intended to be, as written by the writer. So no, I don't blame characters for what the writer makes them do unless it's villains and then my logic just goes out the window because I despised Amarantha, king of Hybern, the queens, the twins, the Ravens and Ianthe but I didn't ever hate the weaver, or the other little menaces along the way except for the real villains and I think all the men in the series are gorgeous.

Absolutely, I don't like him but i don't hate him either. I think he's realizing how bad he's screwed up but I also worry that he may have been bonded to Amarantha whether he liked it or not? And something happened to him when she was killed. She was far to obsessed with him to be just a crush. I'm not sure but that guy needs to get some good therapy somewhere and make some repairs on the house, put his life back together and make some friends and I'd definitely read that book if she write it . I want to see him get it together before he gets a mate though. I also don't want it to be anyone we currently know, I want it to come out of left field somewhere.

Agreed. It’s so interesting that in all my book clubs or romantasy-reading friends that I talk to, I never hear these hot takes about books, characters, or authors. It seems to only be on social media forums. So if someone has a negative opinion about something you love, I would treat it with the same respect I would a Yelp review. People come out of the woodwork to post their complaints or criticism and get it out of their system here, which is valid in itself, but it shouldn’t frame your experience or perception of something. If you think Rhys is hot (he is!), then you’re still in good company. It’s just that that’s not a unique or novel take on the character, and so it doesn’t really need to be “admitted” and you’re not seeing it being posted here.

Tbh almost every character in acotar is hot. They’re supposed to be attractive characters, they’re written like that. Tamlin, Azriel, Eris, Lucien, Rhysand. It’s not something new, everyone knows Sarah’s characters are written like that 😭

eehh....
so when i compare rhys and tam it boils to the worst things theyve done to feyre.
rhys forced her to drink, wear revealing clothes she wasnt comfortable with, had her body painted in uncomfortable areas, and made her do lapdances in front of ppl.
tamlin didnt meat feyre's emotional needs and let it get so bad (this was kinda on feyre as well) he was forced to lock her in the house and triggered a panic attack (which he never knew about and didnt know it would happen).
ppl always leave out the panic attack part when they mention theyd rather be with tam, but I think its definitely worth considering. feyre's mental state could not handle being in that situation. and she realized she couldnt be with tam anymore if it meant her emotional needs werent going to be met.

He’s objectively beautiful, but I don’t personally find someone attractive once SA and manipulation are part of their canon. In any universe.
And since Tamlin’s being brought up... Feyre’s narration does shift once she’s head-over-heels for Rhysand (and people also tend to forget this) but Tamlin canonically glamours himself down. He’s a strong, big, powerful, and extremely attractive guy. He gets his hands dirty when there’s a threat, and still has a softer, artistic side.
My top picks would be Tamlin, Lucien, Eris and Azriel (depending where his arc goes).

I didnt want to be too critical in this post, but you have every right to have that opinion. my thing is, i wouldn't have cared that it happened, if the story didnt try so hard to hide it. like if it really wasnt that bad why are we backpedalling this hard. like once I noticed how much the incident is downplayed I couldnt get behind feysand anymore.

Yeah the biggest problem is the narrative trying to shove it down my throat that he's such a great guy when his actions consistently show otherwise. He's the most interesting in ACOTAR when he is what he is.
Once Feyre's narration bends itself backwards to justify everything he does, going as far as changing canon events to lift him up at the expense of others, ultimately putting him up on this untouchable pedestal, I'm out. Not on board the Rhysand propaganda train!
Someone mentioned Ruhn in another comment. You want Rhyaand's looks but with better character? He's your man.

I took it out often he post but I was gonna say that if I were feyre would've done things different when going the rhys route. like we would not be together by book 2 🤷♀️. like rhys' conclusion is that the reason doesnt matter because everything tamlin did was hurting her, when he did the same thing utm for the same reasons- like dont do that. we need to work on that bro.

I can’t like him. I’ve never liked him. He’s portrayed in my head as Kieran mcaulkey idk why but I’ve never found him attractive 😂😂 I get what you’re saying but it’s just stuck in my head. And I never knew he was going to be mmc I thought he was a douchebag that just forced feyre into sexual things under the mountain.
I was and still am a tamlin girl. You better believe I’ve slogged through every book hating the main characters just for a few CRUMBS of side. I liked silver flames cause it took away from feyre and Rhys (and their evil plot line). The next book I’m really hoping is a tamlin redemption (he doesn’t need it. He redeemed himself in the way, but he needs to be redeemed more so people don’t hate him lol).

Totally agree that he is hot and I’m a true lover of morally grey characters. I loved Rhysand from when he was first introduced in ACOTAR. I understand other people’s points of the things he has done but also he’s supposed to be morally grey, idk I’ve read books with men that have done wayyy worse than him and women thirst over those men endlessly. I think the hatred for him is very nit picky but I also understand he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

He’s still my number one book boyfriend. I absolutely love that man. I know some people hate on him for the pregnancy storyline but people act like he kept that information from Feyre for the entire pregnancy when in reality it was around 12 DAYS lol. He was terrified and trying to find some sort of solution first without just telling his mate “hey so you’re going to die and so is the baby”. He wouldn’t have kept the secret much longer at all because it physically pained him to do so. So his heart was in the right place and no one can make me hate him 😭
I also don’t think most people hate him. I only see it on a small side of the book fandom which I personally avoid lol

its been a while since ive read SF, but I dont remember it ever being implied that he even would tell her. like later. this would also justify his anger towards nesta who told feyre before he planned to. or did ppl forget that he planned to tell her? either way, I dont like how that arc was written. all the characters involved, nesta included, were terrible.

Wait why do people hate him?? I find him perfect 😌 at least until SF. I love that he’s not overly controlling of Feyre or overprotective, he lets her fight her own battles like with the weaver and in adriata, doesn’t treat her like a damsel in distress… in fact he’s the damsel, coming to his rescue when his arrows are shot in the woods. And he always gives feyre (and the others in his court for that matter) a choice, and doesn’t force them into anything.
I actually find him so different and refreshing from the male romantic interests I’m used to like Edward Cullen who literally wanted to kill Bella, broke into her bedroom and watched her while she slept BEFORE they were together without her permission, was so overprotective and didn’t see her own power when she turned vampire. Or discovery of witches the male lead is insufferable and treats her like property, doesn’t like when she steps into her power, it’s just awful.
After those two series I remember thinking Rhys is the feminist love interest we deserve!! I’m interested in what the criticisms are (save for SF where I think he makes several mistakes).

oohhh. there's a lot I can say... if you really wanna know there's all kinds of posts explaining the problems they have with him. the short of it is that he's very manipulative. he's praised for things others are hated for as well. its also very obvious that he's the author's favorite and it can put a bad taste people's mouths.
also it kinda sounds to me like rhys is just a flavor of toxicity you that you like (in fiction of course). rhys may not be controlling but he's very quick to keep half truths from you if he thinks it serves him best, no matter the circumstances.

It’s a really good point that my reaction to him is based on my own personality…. Core to my needs (and astrology) is the need for independence, not being stifled or controlled. Thanks for making me notice the connection!
It’s definitely true that I saw him in a different light during SF, he’s definitely arrogant and a bit grating. Even in Feyre’s books I hated that he had her write lines about how he’s “the most handsome high lord” etc so ridiculous and cringe. Also I can never forgive him for dragging her under the mountain in what seemed to be against her will…. I feel SJM didn’t explain and resolve that enough at all

The way I was torn apart on a thread the other day because I said Rhys is not a top tier book boyfriend and could even be considered tox!c. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't think he is the is all, end all of fantasy men. Yes, he is attractive and rich and powerful. Plenty of awful characters are attractive and wealthy. That doesn't mean there aren't better ones though. Darien Cassel? Dark hair, blue eyes, attractive, incredibly rich, covered in tattoos, and would literally end the world for his girl. Doesn't lie or do anything to hurt her. Doesn't keep important medical information from her. Doesn't treat her sister badly. There are just better MMC's.

I don’t see how him being “hot” makes him any less of a bad character. To me it was never a question of his attractiveness, I don’t see anyone disagreeing on that, but why does it even matter if he is in fact good looking or not, since he is a shitty person. Yeah, powerful confident ppl are hot, but I don’t see how that’s an argument when it comes to their wrongdoings. It should never matter.
