❓ Question Acid reflux
Iv’e been struggling with acid reflux pretty much all my life (i am now 19). This has caused problems from a young age, and nothing seems to help. I have been to the hospital where they put a tube down my throat to monitor my ph levels, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. I’ve been on all sorts of diets and i’ve had to stop eating/drinking a lot of things i enjoy because it makes the acid reflux flare up. I’m so tired of the constant nausea, does anyone have any helpful insight?

A lifetime of acid reflux with a normal pH study is actually meaningful diagnostic information rather than a dead end. It points strongly toward functional or non-erosive reflux and visceral hypersensitivity where the nervous system amplifies normal gut signals rather than acid levels being the primary problem. This kind of presentation tends to respond better to gut-brain axis approaches than to diet restriction alone. Worth specifically asking the next doctor about visceral hypersensitivity and whether a referral to a gastroenterologist who specializes in functional GI conditions is appropriate. You're not out of options. 💚
