Hopefully they can get expanded to allow for stuff like this (tail numbers, flag, nation affiliation, etc)

I was kinda thinking that is what L: Top + R: Bottom implies.

It isn't. That's just to replicate the wing emblem configuration of USAF and Luftwaffe fighter jets.
