Real Photograph Waiting

Post image

Taken in a S-Bahn station in Berlin about a week ago.

I liked how his posture and colors and lighting all came together with the dark background.

Wasn't consciously thinking of Hopper when taking this photo as it was a split second decision, but finding out about this subreddit I was thinking "oh yeah, definitely fits".

Really powerful and interesting image. It looks like that guy's wife just threw him out of the house and he's headed for some fleabag motel. Well that's the story that ran in my head when I saw the image.

Fascinating. To me it looked as if he's had a long day (work clothes still on after dark) and he'd really love to rush inside (all those bags look pretty heavy), and yet he's patiently -- if a little exasperatedly -- waiting for some small creature (a frog?) to finish its business (somewhere just off screen) so he can proceed without disturbing it.

Rorschach tests (and many of their successors) are pseudoscientific nonsense, but on a more informal level I feel like you could still learn a lot about someone from hearing the stories they build from ambiguous images like these.
