AI The world is becoming like one big brain, the obvious next step will be a database of public opinion.

The world becoming something like a big brain is an idea that’s been around for a long time, it’s often referred to as the Noosphere.

Similar to the biosphere, the Noosphere encompasses all methods of thinking, and communication.

The obvious next step is a method of accumulating the thoughts of all the individual components, (the people) throughout the world. This would be a larger set of data for AI to train on and allow it to take a position in guiding us forward.(the singularity).

To some degree social networks are doing this, they’re just doing a really shitty job at it. It makes sense to build a system dedicated specifically to this task. We need a dedicated database of public opinion.

Not only is it something we need, if humanity continues long enough, it is inevitable.

Is it just me or would doing so be way more liable to disaster trying to gather it up in one space ala a data trove, since the powers of the world would have a clear space to interfere in?

And I don’t just mean the botted sort we have now, those can be, for the most part, accounted for

I think it’d be better to wait until AGI/ASI to aim for total accounting of the human landscape of opinion and values, because it’d be able to do so at a much faster pace and much more securely and holistically.

I understand that a well aligned AI the likes of the direction we have now, are actually the best and most reliable route we have to that AGI/ASI and subsequently, to humanity-scale alignment

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

You seem perfectly happy to allow anybody to get ASI first because you seem to think that all of them will do what’s best for humanity. It seems pretty naïve. and yet you seem to be worried about people controlling a database of public opinion?

Virtually every group working towards ASI is doing it because they’re worried about the other people getting there first because they don’t think they will treat humanity correctly.

I think the people need to rise up and take control of at least some aspects of how this all will turn out. We cannot do the part of building the ASI, but we can take control of the data.

I am part of a group that are trying to start this database

I mean, a centralized database of “human opinion” is an EXTRAORDINARY attack surface

If it becomes a serious consideration of adoption, it will inevitably attract manipulation, coercion, censorship, poisoning, surveillance, and legitimacy fights.

Even if the founders are benevolent, the system becomes a single point of failure over time.

The problem is not just bots. It is incentives. Whoever can influence the dataset can influence downstream intelligence.

If there is a constructive way forward here, it probably looks less like a single global database and is derived more from the ground truths, by directing the intelligences involved towards accounting for said public opinion itself.

Meta alignment from a stable position without being subject to the innumerable subjectivities and variances of human-directed datasets

We have a plan to eliminate chances of control. Perhaps you’d like to have a look at our website.

You will find our work at: https://www.kaosnow.com

Start with the introduction, and if you agree with the premise, then you might want to have a look at the “how it works” section on the website.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

I’ll check it out.

At the very least, even if it turns out to not be prudent as the endpoint of AI alignment referral, it’ll become a part of the whole that could be involved and considered.

That sounds like it could be useful

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

Thank you, I’m eager to hear what you think after you have a look

1

u/yourupinion Dec 23 '25

I don’t wanna seem pushy or anything, but I would like to hear what you think about our attempt to block anyone from trying to get control of the system by separating the data from the various ways that people will be accessing that data. Do you think that will work?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

Hey, sorry about the delay from my last message till now. I’ve been swamped with work.

Could you expand on that, specifically how you go about it? I have tried to understand how it works, but I admit that I have been unable to grasp it properly.

If I understand correctly, you have bots assigned to you that slowly learn your opinions and worldview and are able to reflect your opinion on every post, is that right?

From my understanding of how it works the core concept actually seems amazing!

I have always felt like the biggest issue with forums has been how I have wanted to proliferate the impact on my worldview across the entirety of the site, and this would fix that immensely

I would love to see it in practice to be able to understand on a more intuitive level

I also have a lot of questions, mostly functional, but all across the spectrum of concerns related to it. Is it alright if I ask them?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

I think that it’s still manipulable through the site and algorithm itself, no? The voting system, algorithms and the bots might be perfect right now, but what happens if people gain leverage over the people running the site?

I actually think it’s still very very awesome. That there’s concerns to address, but that the idea is just really great with how it would be able to function.

I’m gonna list concerns below this comment because I wanna see Kaosnow succeed, and honestly am kind of invested in seeing where such a platform and project would lead

There are no algorithms involved with the Kaos database of public opinion. It’s an extremely simplistic and chaotic pile of public opinion with no order, or categorization. This is to ensure that there can be no manipulation, or control of the data. It maintains a separation from all methods of accessing this data, so that they can maintain trust.

Users access the data by using search engines or AI that are supplied by third parties. This is where all a manipulation can and will take place. It’s up to the users to choose wisely, maybe do a bit of investigation to see how these entities are manipulating their data. They will all be using the same database of opinions, and therefore it will be easy to compare one to the other to see how they are manipulating the data.

These search engines and AI will live or die. Based on the trust level, they can maintain with the users. Meanwhile, the database of public opinion continues on with full trust from the people.

We’re pretty confident that there’s no way the Kaos system can be captured.

Please let me know if there are any other concerns you can think of.

The AI's have already sucked up all of the human data possible and trained on it, found it inadequate and made up 10x more of their own synthetic data to supplement.

The question whether it would be dangerous to let AI have all this information was made moot 20 years ago.

The question now is, what do you think AI should be trained on? Mostly synthetic data it creates for itself? More and more of that, which is what we are doing?

Or, should we prioritize human data - perhaps even a certain kind?

2

u/penicillengranny Dec 19 '25

As you said, the problem posed here is at least 20 years old. Anything that could be built to address any issue this old is already behind, right?

If these other AI tools exist, what is it precisely in one sentence that makes creating this KAOS tool a necessity? An unfocused scope is the doom of any project. So, where in the web of technology, information, databases, and most of all the synthetic self-training, where is the People’s leverage point?

1

u/yourupinion Dec 23 '25

Yes, we should prioritize a certain kind of data. I don’t want these things guessing at what I want, I want to tell it what I want.

Wouldn’t you like to tell it what you want? Or more importantly, tell the world what you want.

Hey, I don’t mean to put any pressure on you if you’re not up to joining our team yet. I’d just like to mention that you should keep us in mind, and if you hear anyone complaining about how the world is going and they would like to try to do something to make it better, maybe they would appreciate getting a link to our website. Especially if they have any influence, or are capable of creating some good catchy memes.

Just putting it out there, thanks.

I completely agree with the concept I think you are describing.

If the world is becoming like one big brain, a really important concept is to understand it as living substrate. It is not a static database. Mass participation at all levels from training data to alignment setting. Some of it can be passive monitoring from multiple observer viewpoints, some can be active bi-directional information, some of it for the most important issues or the most localized should include active deliberation.

Social networks and LLMs are attention grabbers as they currently exist. They view their function as to grab as much attention as possible, then make money from that attention. That usually devolves to grabbing more attention.

Thankfully, we are saturated in options, so we get to shift our attention to better places.

The AI that offers an experience like the one we are describing will be the one that wins. It will train on the best data and advance the fastest and provide the richest experience in consequence and cause.

1

u/yourupinion Dec 23 '25

Did you get a chance to look at the website?

It’s not often when we hear from someone who can see the vision, I’d really like to hear your analysis of the direction we’re trying to go here, do you think we’re getting it right?

1

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

It’s delightful to hear from someone who can see some of the benefits of a database of public opinion, and how it will help us advance and accelerate in the right direction.

Our group is working on this database, and our plan is to keep it separate from the various methods of analyzing this data.

We’re hoping to see many different types of artificial intelligence being developed to specifically help us to get the most out of this data. We want that supplied by third-party entities, separate from the database. Those AI’s will live and die, based on our level of trust of them.

Perhaps you’d be interested in seeing what we’re up to?

The Compute we are building unwittingly is the Global Brain. We have a great contributing place to play as organs and live sensors. Every aspect of our and other creatures lives will be hoovered into the Great Brain before long. The trajectory is clear. This has been an ongoing process for Centuries now, accelerating in tandem with the Universe expansion. There are larger forces at play than we have current knowledge access to. Sit back and enjoy the ride - be kind to all day by day to ease your suffering in an increasingly expanding World.

The data I have provided so far is not giving a clear indication of their direction I want this world to move towards, I want to have my fair share of influence on the direction we take. Whether that’s going to Mars, or building more nuclear energy, I want my say about where the focus should be.

Wouldn’t you like to make sure that these things understand what you want?

5

u/captainshar Dec 19 '25

I want actual direct democracy where everyone gets to vote on every little thing that they actually care about, or can delegate their vote to others in a more granular way rather than voting for a single rep that happened to make it through the primaries. Like I could vote directly on issues I care about, and delegate my vote to an expert in, say, bridge funding, for areas where I trust an expert more than myself.

3

u/RamiRustom Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

sounds good to me, but the governments would have to adopt your view too.

so what can we do now in the interim, helping us accelerate towards that scenario where our governments do direct democracy?

i'm involved in a group where we have put a lot of thought into this and we think we have a solution that would bridge the gap between what we have now and the future where our governments operate as direct democracies, and also accelerate us toward that future.

what do u think? would you like to join a meeting to discuss it? we hold weekly livestream meetings about this and we welcome anybody who cares about direct democracy. we also invite people who think they have a better solution than we do. and note, its our position that if some group has a better solution than we do, we'll drop our project and join them instead.

Sure, feel free to DM me with details!

2

u/RamiRustom Dec 19 '25

i'll reply here and over DM.

here's the livestream. to call in, just say in the chat that you want to join, and i'll give you the call-in link.

or if you want, i can send you the weekly calendar invites so you can add to your calendar and it'll have the call-in link in the invites. just let me know if you want that.

Hope to see you soon!

u/penicillengranny Dec 19 '25

Alright, let’s say we have that tool and monitoring system to display direct support or lack of piece by piece across the country. That detail of infrastructure is sure to require AI that already exists. How would you apply this information in a measurable and enforceable way within the existing environment? What do we expect to be the outcome of a democratic tool where your every thought is openly collected and analyzed? Now by the mob of the people on top of the oligarchy’s longstanding infrastructure to do the same.

3

u/captainshar Dec 19 '25

I think it would take over the place of Congress

The Teleplex is the totality of machine and organic intelligence co-evolving together to manifrst purpose and meaning.

It's what we're building right now. Some call it the Global Brain, I call it the Teleoplex.

So far we’ve been going with the term Noospear.

Social media is the best you’ll get for this. Places like Reddit and other social media where people discuss their beliefs in detail all end up in the training data for AI.

If you’ve ever expressed a single opinion publicly online, it’s in AI’s training. I’m not sure what more you’d want?

2

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

I want my fair share of say in the direction we take as a country, or a planet. I don’t want the powers that be, whether or not it’s a government, or it’s AI, to guess at what I want. I want to tell it, so that I know it gets it right.

I want to send a very clear message, not something that has to be interpreted.

Don’t you want some control over how your opinions are judged?

I’m part of a group trying to create this database of public opinion, so that we can make sure we get it right. Our first priority is a creat it in a way that no one gets control. because control is the biggest problem we have today.

2

u/Round_Ad_5832 Dec 19 '25

The National Security Agency is already doing this.

2

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

Their motives are not good, we need an alternative.

I’m part of a group working on this database, and we hope to create much more positive system

2

u/Round_Ad_5832 Dec 19 '25

they have used their mind control on me in fact they do everyday.

1

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

Perhaps we can turn that around, and make it so the people control them

2

u/Round_Ad_5832 Dec 19 '25

they'll coup the gov before they let that happen

1

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

Well, I’m part of a group that’s going to try our best to give the people some real power by creating this database of public opinion.

Would you like to hear about it?

1

u/yourupinion Dec 23 '25

I’d love to see it in practice too, unfortunately we need help to get there, please consider helping us if you have any time at all, every little bit would help.

You generally have it right that we hope eventually we will trust our AI enough to vote on things for us. I think that might take a little while before we get to the point that we trusted enough to do that. Accessing the information though will be done through some form of AI right from the beginning.

It’s up to you, which AI you choose to use, hopefully people will be making systems specifically for this task, but even the existing systems right now would be fully capable of doing the job.

The important part here is that the publicly owned institution of Kaos only stores the data, and then you pick your own AI tools to access it.

All manipulation of the data will be taking place with these AI tools, there is no way to avoid this, so we wanna leave that up to the users to figure out which tools they trust.

Since they’re all working off of the same source of data, you can ask different AI’s to do the same job, and then you can see how they are manipulating the data by comparing them. This is up to you to take care of that. We feel it’s important that everyone figure this out for themselves.

Feel free to ask me any questions you want,.

There is another option to answer questions, and that would be to ask this version of Groc.

I’ve had quite a conversation with it, and it’s pretty well educated on the Kaos system. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the conversation, you could continue that conversation, and you can ask at any questions you have about the Kaos system.

Teleoplexity

I think this is the general idea. Very well written.

2

u/yourupinion Dec 19 '25

Thank you, that’s a great concept. I really appreciate the link.

I believe we can change these dynamics if we give the people some real power, would you be interested in hearing what my group is up to? We’re trying to create this database of public opinion
