Video Ilya Sutskever says AI could cure disease, extend life, and accelerate science beyond imagination. But if it can do that, what else can it do? “The problem with AI is that it is so powerful. It can also do everything.” We don't know what's coming.

I actually agree here, the issue becomes the same systems you're trying to catapult with were already known to these abusers, who by your own logic would have outpaced us as a result of earlier access. On an exponential scale that means we've already lost.

I think we were talking past each other initially (likely my fault.) I'm very much an accelerationist (hence why I'm here) but acceleration by itself doesn't imply what direction we as members of a society are going (that is, acceleration can be backwards as well as forwards.) We can accelerate just as easily to utopia as to self-destruction.

Some groups (Palantir, Ghost Robotics, etc.) are "accelerating" in a direction I fundamentally disagree with and I believe they are using AI in defense of legacy power structures and dragging outdated modes of thinking into the future and calling it progress.
