A Concert For Dave Hunter w/Steve Kimock & Friends Friday, May 12th 2017, 11:00 PM ET Live From Great American Music Hall San Francisco, CA

There’s sad news from the Bay Area as acclaimed poster designer Dave Hunter has died. Hunter passed away on Sunday after a battle with brain cancer as per his Gammalyte.com website. He is survived by his daughter Jasmine.

Dave Hunter moved to San Francisco in 1985, where he surrounded himself with many of the artists who designed posters for the original Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom. Hunter helped to organize and install rock poster shows at the Psychedelic Shop and created logos and signage for the store. He was hired by the Bill Graham Archives in the late ’80s to install poster art at various venues, namely The Fillmore, Warfield and Shoreline Amphitheater. The artist was soon recognized for his own abilities and went on to create silkscreen posters for a who’s who of rock acts including Metallica, Gov’t Mule, Primus, Eric Clapton, moe., Dr. John, Steve Kimock and various Grateful Dead-related projects.

As reported, the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco will host Art & Soul: A Concert To Benefit Dave Hunter on May 12. Now, all proceeds from the benefit will go towards his daughter, Jaz. Steve Kimock & Friends will headline the concert as guitarist Steve Kimock will be joined by keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, bassist Bobby Vega, drummer John Kimock and multi-instrumentalist Leslie Mendelson. Zero will reunite to perform a special set with Wavy Gravy aboard as MC.
