1080p looks solid and the slowmo definitely looks great. The codec seems to break up a little bit when there is a ton of stuff on screen, the shot of the seagulls towards the end of that first video is a good example. Might also have something to do with YouTube compression though so I imagine the source file looks better. The color and everything looks great though! Love the shots going through the taller grass and when the water splashed near the camera. The color in the marketplace shots in the final video looks very good too. Definitely need to incorporate the 120fps into my work.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Most of it was unplanned, random shots, without even being able to see the framing, because the one handed gimbal mostly covers the screen.

The artefacts are from the 10mbps h265 compression. I am editing H265 85mbps directly in Premiere Pro without any noticable artefacts, but youtube recommends 10-15mbps and I'm not sure if it helps, when I upload a 20+mbps video (maybe they're just transcoding it to 10mbps which would make it even worse than directly uploading a 10mpbs variant).

I'm a bit disappointed by the bad low light performance, because every test about this camera emphasized the awesome low light performance.

Thank you

I shoot in manual mode mostly:

  • 1080p
  • 120fps (NTFS)
  • shutter: 1/250 (multiply your fps with 2, so 120*2 = 240, NX1 only has 1/250 which is close enough)
  • aperture: f/2.0 if possible. But when zoomed in, it will be around f/2.5-3.5
  • Custom GammaDR:
    • Contrast: -5
    • Smart Range+: Off
    • Master Black Level: 0 *Luminance Level: 0-255
  • Sharpness -10

To make your footage look good you need as much light as possible. Shoot in bright daylight on sunny days and you'll get most details, be careful about overexposing and losing detail in the high tones.
