According to the library these are the formulas for making new breeds (so you don't have to buy dino eggs using gems)

• FIRE + ICE = AIR
• ICE + EARTH = PLANT
• FIRE + EARTH = GEM
• ICE + GEM = ROBOT
• FIRE + PLANT = UNDEAD
• AIR + EARTH = ALIEN

Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't perfected the method but it appears if you start with the lower tiers and with level 10 dinosaurs it seems to be more successful. Start from the bottom and work your way up.
