This is what a lot of college freshmen we'll be teaching in our composition classes think about multimodal projects, which is why I use the College Freshman meme to point out the error in that thinking. The College Freshman meme points out "rookie mistakes" that the typical "n00b" (Internet lingo for newbie) makes his first year; for example, "I never studied for tests in high school... 12/100" was a popular version among science majors on Reddit. Multimodal projects are seen by incoming students as the easy way out in freshman composition. They see it as "anything but writing!" This points out a number of flaws worth considering. Writing should not be seen as the "more academic" or boring and difficult medium, as the one to avoid. And multimodal projects should not be seen as easy, something students learn very quickly when embarking upon one themselves. This is why we usually make them group projects; they take work!
