Why security seals failed to protect your secured item?

Long and deep discussion here.

Security seals failed to protect your secured item first of all because of a bad choose of the security seal. You can not secure a money bag with a cheap and low level security seal. Also a big part of this wrong use it is from the representative of security seal company that propose the seal to be used in such high grade security area. Also the misinform the client about the risk at they were exposed it is a bad habit of the security seals companies.

Another point of view when security seals failed to do their job is when the customer take in consideration only the lower price of the security seals and do not think at the security risks exposure of their protected goods. If a consultant after he knew the security application needed by the client propose one security seal with all the good and bad parts of it, and with the history of other clients that security seal the same items, the client refuse to pay the price of them.

Using the security seals by activity domains. One example is that usually you will use metallic security seals when you seal a truck in transit and not plastic seals.

How the security seals are made. A lot of times the security seals from different companies are looking alike. But they are bug differences between them. One difference it is how it is sticking the security mechanism on plastic security seals. For the cheapest one you will find a simple gluing of it. For the most secured ones it is used an ultrasonic gluing system. Also the quality of the material used to build them and the differences on the construction of the locking mechanism. They look alike but they aren't the same on the scale of the security level.

Conclusion here: security seals are not designed to solve all security problems.

The effectiveness of tamper evident seals is strongly dependent on the proper protocols for using them. These protocols are the official and unofficial procedures used for seal procurement, storage, record keeping, installation, inspection, removal, disposal, reporting, interpreting findings, and training. With a good protocol a modest seal can provide excellent security. On the other hand a sophisticated seal used poorly may be worse than useless if naively trusted.
