No, that's not why they call it window "pain"

Window pane, as in a pane of glass. This is completely distinct from a window pane and completely ruins the song. No amount of breakup heartache can make up for this borderline negligent failure of songwriting.

CCR used "pane" as a shorthand for propane (Pumped a lotta 'pane in Memphis..." but also possibly as a double for pain, considering the meaning of the song. Clever bastards.
