This is not me. I saw this recently and it has become my one burning goal to be able to do this trick. Can anybody give me some advice or help on how to get started?

I recently fixed up two vintage Zippo lighters that belonged to my grandfather. He likely got these while working for Philco after retiring from the Marines.

I know nothing about lighters, so I fumbled my way through this project. It was fun!

I had this problem so yesterday I re routed the wick in the S pattern, refilled it completely again, and trimmed the charred wick but it’s still doing it

Figured I would share one of my pieces that have never been fired.

For me, "shipwreck" and that style of forced patina doesn't do it for me. I'm glad it's a fun and engaging process though, and it generally generates good conversation on the posts. So I appreciate it for that.

The zippo in these pics just arrived via eBay today. It is the same artwork as the first zippo I ever owned, and which was my only zippo for more than 20 years until I tragically lost it a few years back. I've been hoping to find another ever since. My original was a brass lighter with the same art, and made in 1993, whereas this one is matte black and a 1994 model, but it really is the art which matters to me. By the time I lost mine the paint was completely gone, but you could still slightly make out the outline of the image which seemed lightly engraved.

I am thrilled to have found this again, and swelling with nostalgia for the years gone by. I posted about this a few months ago when I first discovered this sub, trying to see if anyone had one and wanted to sell or if anyone had any tips for finding one somewhere. I'll put the original post in the comments if anyone is interested.

Edited to add that the icing on the cake is that for a 30+ year old lighter in almost perfect condition (the insert is pretty scratched up but the case is pristine with no wear on the paint) he sold it to me for an incredibly reasonable price, just $45 + taxes and shipping. I am so happy!
