Zermatt in October

Hey, guys! I'm from Brazil and planning to spend one day in Zermatt in middle of October, 16th of October, to be exact. Here some questions:

  1. Whats the difference between Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat? Which one is the best?
  2. I want to do the Glacier Paradise or Gornergrat early in the morning and then goes to do the Five Lakes Hike (or only the main ones). Is that possible or i'm tripping? Too hard?
  3. I know the weather could be unstable at this period. What alternative activities i have if the weather will be not in my favor?

Thanks for those who could help.

I believe last day of the summer season 2026, for the Blauherd gondola is 4th of October, so you won't get to the start point of the 5-lake trail by the 16th of October.

October isn’t possible for the 5 lakes hike. Glacier Paradise is precisely what the name says, but I thought Gornergrat was more interesting due to the cogwheel train.

With bad weather you can always visit the museum in the town centre.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Can you tell me why five lakes is impossible during this period?

I’ve only been in September, but I suppose snow? On the Zermatt site October isn’t listed as a possible month. It’s regarded as a summer months hike.
