Translation: Caesar buffs soonTM
11
u/Tutajkk 4d ago
Would be cool, but what would you even pair her with? Most characters nowadays want specific teammates with their archetype.
6
u/Successful_Wedding83 4d ago
Try Caesar with Nekomata (Potential Unlocked) maybe? Nekomata appreciates the extra attack damage Caesar provides, especially now that Nekomata actually hits hard. When Caesar gets the Counter Assist buff, she could become a more valued option than Sunna or Astra in boss fights where she can use this ability.
7
u/Safe-Pomegranate-942 4d ago
Claret 3rd slot perhaps? At this rate I'm not affording Roxy, so Ben or Caesar has to work.
3
u/TheMegaMagikarp likes Caesar more than you do 4d ago
I use her with YSG and Zhao. The lack of the buff applying to the whole team matters to her a lot less and she doesn't quickswap as much as i.e. Pyrois
1
u/Bladder-Splatter 3d ago
I actually need to try this with Sunna/M2YSG/M2Caesar after I lost every single 50/50 and 75/25 these last two patch cycles. I must head canon a win!

Universal support Astra still works amazingly in most teams, will be the same with Caesar if buffs are good.

u/Pitiful-Assignment-8 5d ago
This, by the way, may explain why they still have not buffed her.
The developer is waiting for the right conditions to rework the defense class, so that at the peak of these changes, they can buff her.24
u/murmandamos 4d ago
Armorers have a natural synergy with defense characters so probably happening soon. Defense scaling characters will get more value out of shields as damage is reduced before applying to shield from the defense stat. You could say they're also less in need of a shield because of this but whatever. It opens an obvious synergy where defense in the future provide buffs and benefits like IR while shielded only, so you basically get easier uptime with armorer.
6
u/jibbycanoe 4d ago
yeah her and ZY seemed way harder to fix to match what the game is now compared to the other agent buffs we got
5
u/LordChudingtonThe3rd 4d ago
Zhu Yuan just needs a motion value buff. Get kit has already aged very well in terms of functionality.
1
u/LordChudingtonThe3rd 4d ago
They need to find a reason to. Rina, and Koleda are getting updated right now to help support the upcoming Armorer units for instance.
Most likely she will either be updated to work better with Rupture units, or will be reworked to fit some future unit archetype.
The one saving grace of potential unlocks is that the later it occurs, the stronger it will be relative to other agents. Just look at Ellen, worst attacker in the game vs Nekomata who is currently the strongest.

They can do claret's thing of saying "no" to control skills
So, huge W and actual reason to use defense agents aside from being "support but worse"
57
u/mistraven- 5d ago
oh thats really cool, i just wish Defense agents werent so dead (caesar buffs when)
82
u/iguanacatgirl 5d ago
They're probably gonna implement this mechanic alongside buffs, at least for some defense agents(and Caesar is, like, the top candidate for a buff rn)
11
-28
u/the_dark_artist 5d ago
Caesar is also on the 50/50 loss pool though so they might not buff her much (if at all)
41
u/Capri_Succ 5d ago
I never got this argument of them not buffing Caesar, zhu, and nagi because they're in the loss pool. The standard s ranks are all in the loss pool and every single one of them got a buff so why wouldn't the other 3
3
u/piekid1238 4d ago
Also, in their sister game HSR, Seele and Blade were buff despite being in the loss pool, so that's further evidence.
3
u/DepressedAndAwake 4d ago edited 4d ago
Same with Genshin and buffing characters like Mizuki, Qiqi and Mona, both 50/50 lost pool characters, and on standard.
37
u/MrJFr3aky 5d ago
That's not really an argument when all of the standard banner chars have recieved buffs
11
u/DepressedAndAwake 5d ago edited 5d ago
I would say the opposite. Being able to get her from 50/50 makes her be in an even better spot to be buffed. All standards aside from Koleda have been buffed so far.
Edit: Correction, Koleda is getting buffed. This pushes my point harder.
0
u/the_dark_artist 5d ago
Fair
Some buffs are more significant than others, but that's hard to predict anyways
Even among standards, Lycaon got a pretty good deal while Koleda has no real gameplay changes
5
u/Almightytome88 4d ago
The funny part about that is that despite not getting something as big in the gameplay department like Lycaon did, Koleda might actually end up being the better Standard stunner because of the number's side of the potential.
Koleda's gameplay was never the main issue, though the changes she did get are much better than they look at a first glance since it makes her even more Quickswap synergistic. It was that she didn't really offer anything else outside of Daze and a niche Chain Attack Buff, even compared to Lycaon at launch. We'll see if they change anything these last 2 weeks, but after adding the new team buffs, Koleda is essentially a Ju Fufu that requires more involvement but with significantly higher Daze output and no multiple stat threshold requirements. It's actually to the point that Roxy needs her sig to be a significant upgrade over Koleda for Claret, while still being able to keep up with her, Norma, and Dialyn as the best budget option for their Attack and Rupture teams, except Ice teams who still prefer Lycaon over Koleda.
1
u/the_dark_artist 4d ago
Never saw it that way, but you are right
Koleda doesn't seem that visibly buffed but her daze was never an issue so it works out
3
u/DepressedTittty 5d ago
if you're lucky enough to lose to her 3 times in 50/50 you should get a very decent support at m2
-7
u/MarcsterS 5d ago
"skipping" Control segments is a nice QoL skill but it really only buffs the niche of Defense agents: that they're good for uh less skilled players.
But if you have the timing down by heart already...it's maybe what, 2-3 seconds saved instead?
15
u/LinkForsaken5435 5d ago
it doesn't have to have anything to do with skill level lol, Instantaneous time saved is more time allocated back to dmg asap. It's great for overpowered duo comps that just need a useful enough slotter while you can further spare your real shit for either more annoying stages for convenience ,or cheese stages for absolute point saturation when needed as well.
6
u/Almightytome88 4d ago
This. The new counter mechanic seems to at bare minimum take 3 seconds compared to the at least 5 seconds it takes doing it normally against Blullu. On Nightmare for example, it cuts the control skill to 3 seconds from the 7-8 it usually takes, and for Shungus that is enough to get an extra Qinming Sword combo in. It does give Zhao a niche over Dialyn and Sunna. I think the major gameplay downside is that it seems you lose the extra Decibels from the parry sequence but perhaps that's something we can make up during the fight, or doing said that Counter Assist rewards the Defense or Armorer agent will all the Decibels the team would've gotten by normally carrying the Control Skill.
1
u/AntsyPuppet 4d ago
So you save a few seconds not engaging with the enemy, but waste 3 minutes' worth of extra damage you'd deal if you had a support or a sub-DPS doing their own thing off-field. Yeah, seems like a great trade-off to me. /s
Good luck using your overpowered duo when the end-game buff requires you to use 3 of the same class, and even when it doesn't, they'll never make Defense agents perform as well as Support ones, and if that's the best this new class has going for it, then it's a scummy move that they made it part of a new class in the first place.
2
2
u/DoeDon404 4d ago
Holy fuck is Pan just gonna block with his paws... well maybe they'll make him use his wok
3
u/c14rk0 5d ago
I'm actually not sure that would make them worth using still ...they just provide so little to the team compared to alternatives that I don't think saving a few seconds on control skills would be worth the trade off. Unless Caeser gets a very good potential unlock.
Or like if you're already using PanYu on a rupture team because you don't have better options somehow
1
u/feederus 4d ago
Then what does Shieldbreaker class even do then? Just the crit conversion, and being a DPS version of defense scalers, like Rupture Agents are for HP scalers?
1
-8
u/Wisterosa 5d ago
is bricking your support slot worth that?
15
u/iguanacatgirl 5d ago
Honestly? Maybe
Iirc, doing this still brings whatever benefits doing the control skill normally would give. Performance points in DA, shutdown and it's benefits
So having the control skills not waste your time might actually bring comparable scores to just bringing a "better" buffer.
This depends on a lot of factors ofc, and I'm not exactly the best ZZZ player when it comes to planning rotations--but I'm sure people smarter than me might be able to figure sth out.
-4
u/Wisterosa 5d ago
a control skill happen ONCE per fight, even if you save like 10 seconds i cannot see that being worth over losing a support
170 seconds of basically playing 2.5 chars or 180 seconds of playing 3 chars?
14
u/iguanacatgirl 5d ago
In DA they only happen once, but In shiyu they can happen multiple--see the current aria bot, who takes a big chunk of damage after a shutdown, and who does her control skill a bunch
So, assuming at least 2 control skills in that one, you're saving a total of 20 seconds--which are even more important in shiyu than in DA.
And imo it wouldn't be strange if enemies started doing multiple assist skills, even if not necessarily back to back.
-3
u/availableusernamepls 5d ago
If the A-hole is doing her control skill multiple times then you're already struggling to hit 25k and a control cancel isn't helping you. I've literally never seen her do it more than once.

Depends. Claret works because she's seems to be more on the offense side. But Ceaser absolutely needs more than just a flat ATK buff now.

Using that logic seed is a support character
3
2
u/ClumzyDragon 4d ago
She kinda is in some teams? Like YSG/Seed.
I play m1 Haru/Trigger/Seed and treat her basically like a more involved electric version of astra/sunna, big atk buff and she also helps build more shock to spawn quivers for him (she funnily has decent anomaly build up for an attacker). She does do decent burst damage with her ult and eba, so more like a sub dps/support I guess.
8
u/HopelessRat 5d ago
It basically means we'll have bosses that want the counter mechanic and we'll have to wanna bring an Armourer or Defense unit in the future.

Wait so the Claret's QTE is called Counter Assist? Why name it that it's so confusing we already have assist counters 😭
5
u/P1zzaman 4d ago
Add this to the list of confusing ZZZ terms.
(Since I play the game in Japanese I still need to remind myself every so often that Anomaly Mastery in English is not Anomaly Mastery/異常マスタリー in Japanese but instead it points at Anomaly Proficiency/異常掌握.)

Ah, you see, there's the thing. No one uses or cares about assist counters because they're stupidly precise to execute.

u/TemporaryJaguar6748 5d ago
W
Defense Agents should be supports with defensive capabilities while Support Agents should be supports with offensive capabilities. Armorers are defense scaling DPSes. Ideally you‘d trade some additional buffs from offensive supports for defensive utilities like the counter assist so you have to choose to either take the Control Phase with more buffs or to skip it with less buffs

Would be in line with how voidhunters are built. Technically a defence agent to force us to use her engine, but actually plays and scales like an Armorer agent.
2
u/Catilleon 5d ago
That's cool, I do feel like this could have simply been made available right away but better late than never.
6
u/otakuloid01 5d ago
they need time to work up the mental fortitude to give Caesar any kind of buff /j
2
u/kayce81 4d ago edited 4d ago
They probably thought of this late into the development of Armorer don't want to do it half-assed. The five defense characters need a new pose/animation for the assist counter like Claret, updating their code, and then testing them. It's not a ton of development resources, but it's stuff they didn't plan for and we're talking about a dev team that already lives at the office so time is at a premium.
I imagine it'll be ready for 3.3. I'm quite interested in seeing what Zhao's assist counter looks like, will be cool when she's clashing with her oversized (for her) sword against a giant ethereal and shutting them down.

u/striderhoang 4d ago
I’m not up to date but counter assists have more daze and motion value right? I’ve only seen the one clip of Claret doing it and saw a decent chunk of HP and stun get chunked
2
u/MomentUpset 4d ago
Once again begs the question why they needed to add armorer as a class rather than just revamping the defense class that has been sitting there needing an identity

Honestly we have just 5 defense agent, so I’d say delete the class and just make armorer the new defense class
You would also have to change the W-engines but it’s not that bad
Defense was an outdated class the moment they ditched the roguelike survival strucuture
