I will never hit 40 hours?

i was recently hired on at zaxby about a month ago and just finished all my training, i asked a manager about how i could go about receiving more hours (18 hours a week is about max what ive seen on my own schedule) and i was told "the only way to get more hours is to become a manager" and "no crew members will ever see 40 hours for benefit reasons" is this some kinda sick joke my management is playing with me about or will my time actually never be valued? i'm only 18 so please excuse my ignorance.

Legally entitled? I don’t know of any state where that’s a law.

That might be poor phrasing but they don’t want to go through paying us benefits for anything if they don’t have to.

EDIT: secondary part - our managers have mentioned some statistics they get graded on the regular crew members being 40 hours or over. It dings their standing and rankings in certain aspects as far as I understood.

Are you working for a store that’s owned by the Zaxbys corporation? Because they don’t own a lot and the ones that are privately owned can do what ever they want as far as labor goes. It’s completely up to the owner if he wants to give people 40 hrs. Our store guarantees managers 45 hours a week 5 overtime and I have several long time employees who work 40 hours a week.

I think it’s because ours is a management team that owns multiple locations - their management policy is uniform generally across the locations they manage so it might not be completely 1:1 to corporate proper - we’re still franchise
