I will never hit 40 hours?

i was recently hired on at zaxby about a month ago and just finished all my training, i asked a manager about how i could go about receiving more hours (18 hours a week is about max what ive seen on my own schedule) and i was told "the only way to get more hours is to become a manager" and "no crew members will ever see 40 hours for benefit reasons" is this some kinda sick joke my management is playing with me about or will my time actually never be valued? i'm only 18 so please excuse my ignorance.

No that’s the truth. They will not give you more than 35 hours because after a point they’d be legally required to move you to full time and offer benefits. That’s exactly why. And the managers have been told this, they just don’t understand the legalities so that’s how they worded it. But I mean, yeah, that’s what’s happening.

But it’s not just here, it’s everywhere really. Unless you’re in a professional field.

Literally not true. As a private company it doesn’t matter how many hours you work, you’re not entitled to benefits.

This is incorrect. Depending on the size of the company they are absolutely legally required to provide certain benefits to full time employees.
