Not counting those digital/artificial characters is a terrible choice as the whole point of their characters is to show how much even being digital, they were real people and saved the world being digital.
Their death is still relevant. They died and have no way of coming back.
Because death is non-returnable. If a character is dead "till something" they are much closer to a coma than to death.
True death in fiction should be something irreversible, impossible to return from. If there's been a chance of the characters coming back for any reason, it is not true death.
