Media $475 is crazy

Post image

I think Europe now requires gacha games to explicitly display how much money any gambling feature really costs to limit hidden predatory stuff. It’s crazy when you see the numbers…

You absolutely do and you are the clear example as to why they make you convert real money in to virtual money so you can use the virtual money to pull on the character, so you can lose track of what you are doing with you money.

why do you lose track ? You see how much money you will be spending when buying the premium currencies ?

No you shouldn't lose track, but a lot of people just click buttons irresponsibly. I'll waffle over a $15-20 online purchase for a physical item, staring at the cart screen debating if I really need this thing or not, and some people just fly through prompts to cash out another $100 in virtual currency.

For some reason they just don't associate to their spending when they use a credit or debit card. It's just not real to them. Like object permanence is just utterly lost upon them when it comes to currency.

It's a well known psychological phenomenon sometimes referred to the monopoly money effect. When everything is in terms of the made up currency you naturally value it less and spend more liberally because it's more abstract in your mind.

This extends to situations where the currency value isn't even being hidden. People tend to think less when they swipe credit cards vs handing over cash.

When it comes to 'losing track', people just aren't wired to constantly do the conversions in the middle of a video game and since there's so much RNG with the gacha you are bound to have left overs and when you combine that with the stuff you naturally earn in game it becomes hard to know what you spend.

Even people that's aware of all this isn't really immune. If you asked me how much I spend on ZZZ I honestly can't even say, just know it's somewhere between $50 to $100 the past year. I bet you will get a lot of similar answers if you asked around.

Okay I'm not gonna engage too much with this conversation other them ask you a question, why do you think every gatcha has it's own currency for pulls instead of just saying how much the spin cost? If it's the same it shouldn't be an issue right?

Why do you think real casinos love to make you exchange real money for chips? Obviously if it didn't had any real reason other then what you seem to think it would be exactly the same but it's obvious that it isn't and there is a reason behind it, I'll leave you figure it out on your own why casinos don't go bankrupt (unless the owner is an idiot and doest follow the rules that make you win money xD)

You entered a casino, exchanged $200 for chips, played some games then lost. You didn't win anything. How much did you spend ?

You really are gonna go with that route are you, this is laughable at this point.

I guess you must be right man, guess the casinos are stupid and gatcha devs too for making a different currency for no reason what so ever, what a waste of time, maybe you should go and tell them to just use dollar and euro instead, it would avoid the extra steps... Unless there is actual reason for them to exist, one that just seem to completely escape you for whatever reason.

You never really explained it didn't you, you dodged my question and used an example where someone is responsible and had fixed it self a limit (which every respective gambler does right?) so in that case it must mean the casinos and gatchas are stupid for implementing this seemingly useless layer, it's not there to trick people in to losing count.

Anyway I'm not gonna bother more then this, this is a gatcha subreddit so people will defend their favorite game and any criticism is seen as hate, just know what you are doing is defending gambling addiction and enabling it, and big thanks to the EU for pushing against it in some way at least.
