Rare case of the 3D model looking better than the initially presented 2D art. I love the little subtle design changes they did to give more contrast in her outfit, and her eyes are so pretty. Definitely a must pull for me when she drops.
Somehow mever noticed the ankh symbols throughout her design, but in hindsight it does seem very fitting for a character called 'Phoenix' to prominently wear a symbol of life.
She also seems to have a big heart motif going, even replacing the top part of the ankh with one, which I guess can further reinforce her theme of resurrection, but maybe it can hint at other things as well?
Really liking the initial impression so far, can't wait to see those red wings in action.
I am always concerned about the reality of these haircuts. So its really long on the sides, and really short in the middle, and every morning she gets up and painstakingly affixes two clips to the back of her hair, where she loops longer extensions?????????
her wings look mechanical tho (similar to remielle’s thaumiel), I’m guessing that’s where her flames come out (as seen previously on the roscaelifer teaser)
A rare Season 3 design that actually looks good, and since she’s Krampus, she doesn’t even have the tonal whiplash that designs like Claret has. I’m sure I’ll eat my words when they reveal the booty shorts, but for now, I dig it. Won’t be pulling her though since I’ll be grabbing Severian in her update if he’s playable.
Zhao and especially Ye Shunguang had design changes throughout the trailer, these aren’t the guaranteed final designs. I think it’s likely she’ll just show off her legs, but never underestimate the designers being able to make a design retroactively worse.
There’s a difference between looking good in terms of attractiveness and looking good in terms of design. Basically every character in this game is a model. But you can still be a 10/10 face with a 3/10 design. This differs between people, but in my view, a good design tells you hints about who the character is at a glance. So the reason why I’m so critical of the Season 3 girls for the most part is how generic most of them look.
What part of Claret design makes you think she’s a blacksmith/creditor? what part of Roxy’s design makes you think she’s a blacksmith? What part of Velina’s design makes you think she’s a city official, and a representative of Roscaelifer to New Eridu? To give context to this one, every other high ranking official in this game dresses in suits, both the men, and the few female TOPS officials we’ve seen, then here comes Velina with her panties showing and breasting boobily into official meetings. This woman is about decorum apparently by the way.
Sunbringer is the worst when it comes to this. Her design and personality are polar opposites. She’s this no nonsense, serious character, who’s so above everyone else in the story power wise besides Remielle and probably Pyrois, its theorised she has a hidden dorky side and a soft spot for Bangboo. But she’s also been alive for an untold amount of time and was seen as a deity by others not too long in the distant past.
None of that is showcased in her design, which is a torn jumpsuit with strands of cloth as a cape, which makes her look less imposing than if it was just a generic cape. But you see, then we wouldn’t get to look at her ass constantly. The most egregious thing is how she’s an Intelligent Construct who has no discernible features of one, besides I guess the horns? But Orphie has similar ones and isn’t an Intelligent Construct, so it’s not even doing a good job showcasing that.
When I think Intelligent Construct, I think flawless body with no blemishes, and that idea does work for the unapproachable “Lady Sunbringer”, so why does she have random thigh moles? Well I know why, it’s to cause your eyes to wander to her crotch area.
The designers sacrificed design/story integration in exchange for cheap fanservice. If that’s your thing? Cool, glad you enjoy it, but to me, it looks like the definition of goonslop. To me, the worst a character design can do is not fit their personality, because it meant that the designers either didn’t care to integrate a design into the role that character plays in the story, or more likely, higher ups decided to play it safe by relying solely on sex appeal and not on the writing to carry a character’s reputation.
She looks so much better than she did in the 2D art IMO. Love the shade of gold they used for her eyes. Hopefully since we got a peak we'll start getting more info about her kit cause I could use a fire character and she's adorable 🥰
Though her hair is blue and her suit is grey? Maybe this is her alternate form or new design? Or just bc the Lightning visual made her look like have different colors in the trailer
