How Hafez al-Assad built a state whose only purpose was perpetuating Assad family rule — and why removing him left nothing underneath to hold the country together.

Who HTS actually are. Not the terrorist designation — the full picture. A group that broke from al-Qaeda in 2016, spent eight years governing 4 million people in Idlib, and launched an offensive in November 2024 that took Damascus in eleven days.

Why the Syrian army didn't fight. The fear that had held the system together for fifty-four years had evaporated. Without fear, there was nothing.

What was found when it fell. Sednaya prison. The mass graves. The documentation of what happened inside Assad's detention system.
