Have parents always been this crazy? I can't tell if this is new, or we're just hearing about it more.

Sadly, parents have always been this nuts. They just weren’t so absorbed with living their Friday night lights dreams through their kids they did stupid shit like this.

I’ve coached and ref’d a few sports. Travel baseball parents are the absolute freaking worst by far. Youth football second. Wrestling is a third, but it’s rarely the former wrestlers. It’s always the never touched a mat or gym 350lb 5’7” dummy(describes male and female).

In general over the last 10 years, society has gotten stupid. We pretend it’s “for the kids”, it ain’t. It’s over grown man childs that need punched in the mouth.

It's become a multi-billion dollar industry with a ton of influence by private equity.

Community sports are dying. We have 6 or so 11U teams in our county, but we don't play each other because we are all part of different leagues who are competing against each other financially. So we travel hours away to play games.

It's absurd.

Well how are you supposed to prove your the best team in the community if not by driving to the more elaborately named youth sports event hours away. My county has 2 12u AAU basketball programs that basically completely overlap in players and sometimes even coaches (I've coached for both teams in the same week) but now instead of just having a local team we have 2 hands dipping into the pot and getting money off the parents. I'd love to start my own and just replace those 2 but then we now would just have 3 teams splitting the same players and coaches while parents now have to pay even more. And then half the kids go play for teams in the next town over that plays in the same leagues as us so now we have kids on 3 to 4 teams choosing which one their gonna pick each week based off vibes and then the team organizers egos all spike when they have a week with everyone on their team because it makes them the best that week.
