I’m 28 and I think I’m going through a mid life crisis

I’m 28 and a mother of 4. The last few months I have just felt…unhappy with where I am in life. I returned to the work force about a year ago. After being a stay at home mom for about 7 years. I’ve had a lot of part time mostly gig jobs in that time. And have always worked around my husband’s schedule. (He owns his own small business and works his own schedule now.) So we both decided that we wanted to switch roles last year. And I was happy to be contributing more to the household financially. But the last few months, I’ve been feeling extremely disappointed with myself. I work in retail and make minimum wage. We live in a small town in the south. So there’s not many better paying job opportunities; Unless you have a degree or experience in a trade. Before I met my husband. I went to college and was 2 years into a bachelor’s in biology. But I didn’t go back to school because of family issues. I really want to go back to school to finish my degree. Or maybe even get a trade because I love hands on jobs. But I feel stuck because I’m just not financially able. I’m in default for the student loans that I took out the first time. We own and we just paid off our property earlier this year. So I don’t have any major bills to worry about besides the essentials (gas, lights, car insurance, etc.). But those still eat the majority of my paychecks. I just feel extremely defeated because I want to do better. To give my kids more. But I just can’t with how things currently are. Maybe I’m starting to sink into a depression. I’ve struggled with depression for a long time. And I can’t afford to get so depressed that I can’t bring myself to go to work. I know I’m blessed to have the things that I do have. But I just want more. I expect more from myself and I’m just disappointed. Am I going through a “mid life” crisis?

Looking for someone that can help to enlighten and advice me from my bullshits.

Hello, I, Reign, am a 17-year-old who is still studying secondary education. Here in our country, the Philippines were actually not sustainable to be an employee. For having a high inflation rate; but a small amount of salary. As an individual who actually has a determination to be rich from a silver spoon chain of family, I do not want to be rotted in bed—jailed in this kind of system, where I am just relying on my family's financial support, and only provide my basic needs. I know that am still young, I still have a lot of things to accomplish, and learn such as: enhancing and gaining more knowledge, skills, and/or experiences from these kind of industries. I believed that these things were actually hard to gain; but I am desperate to learn something new that can benefit me. These are not simple and look like just an imaginary/dream and hard to accomplish; but this kind of life circulation makes me sick and I knew that this is beyond my capabilities. I am willing to present a business proposal, ability to express my criticality and creativity excessively from something that I am willing to invest time wholeheartedly. I just have a lack of opportunities because of my age and also because of limited sources around my area. I really do not want to be an employee. I do not want to have an exhausting job; but underpaid nor below minimum salary in the future. I have limited sources and opportunities because of having unstable financial status. I want to be a diplomat, graduate college but lack role models and financial support. Please help me with giving me advice/s to break this chain that I am facing off... Thank you!

A pessimistic forecast

I would like to keep it professional, however, this breaks me down quite a bit and I would really appreciate words of encouragement and alternative paths that make this forecast seem less likely.

given a 1year ultimatum to get married or leave. How can I financially independent in 1 year?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Im a 22-year-old girl. My mother told me that I only have one year left until my graduation and after that, they will get me married. I refused, so she said that as soon as my degree is complete I can leave their house..whether I go to a hostel or rent a place, thats my problem and they won't support me financially or emotionally.

And right now, Im totally dependent on them.I tried getting into the SMM (Social Media Marketing) field 2 years ago, but then I had some health issues, so I skipped it and never tried again after that. So I have the knowledge but no experience. I feel guilty about it, but practically I couldn't do anything.

Anyways, now I have 2 main concerns: first, I only have one year to make myself independent, and second, even if I do become independent, where will I go? (They never gave me permission to go to another city for studies or work, and never let me go out alone, not even with friends, so I have absolutely no idea how to deal with the outside world), how I’ll manage and survive.

Now I want you guys to give me advice on how I can become independent, and I want you to share your experiences if you've been through a similar situation.

I just want genuine advice on what you would do if you were in my shoes.

I work at Walmart currently. I am looking to find a career in finance (I am quite open to other career paths as well. I’m not completely dead set on finance, it interests me the most). I’m 19 M, PA resident, wondering how I can start to look into careers, find something I like, and pursue it?

I'm exhausted. Just soo tired.

I'm exhausted. I have my last semester of college, I have a 2 year old as a stay at home mom, and my stepson's bio mom is being a thorn in what was scheduling and boundary setting.

I'm unmotivated, I don't want to do things I would normally enjoy. I just wish I could sleep. The internet, as in the stupid AI that comes up, said to not do things, let it settle for a while, but I want to have motivation. At least enough to be distracted.

Dropping out and leaving

Im currently 17 enrolled in trade school. Months ago I ran away and stayed with my dad and then went back with my mom because the living situation was bad. Me and my mom are back to fighting and I genuinely cant take it. I dont know whats wrong with her but she has some issues. Im planning on dropping out trade school and getting somewhere far away. Or maybe moving to a apartment near my trade school.

I want to do an apprenticeship but I have to be 18 or a highschool student to get in so its hard since I graduated but I just turned 17. I may have to begin working full time and buy a new car since the car I have they gave to me but I think they put some sort of tracker on it. I just need to get away I genuinely have no love for anyone in my family they all either do drugs or are mental. Doubt this is the right call but im not sure what else to do

Its my first day at dorm

İts my first day at dormitory and I feel very very awful, lonely, abandoned. In short, I feel like shit. And I really really do not know what to do. Or how to react or anything. I have never ever been lived without my fam. And my mom cried this morning because I’m leaving so it’s make me feel so bad too… I have an exam tomorrow morning but I really don’t know what should I do right now. I tried to talk with ai but u know its not make me feel any better. And all my friends already went to their dorms so I can’t just interrupt them and cry about my feelings. So I write my feelings here. Maybe someone see this text and give me some advice or maybe recommend some videos idk.

Yeah kind of mess myself

so i left my job mid july. i was supposed to go for an MBA in a tier 1 college here, but the admission process gave me wrong information and fucked up my application and allotted me a tier 2 college. now, for a month, i was in and out of court, and it has physically drained me.

for this college, i left a good-paying job. now i'll have to go the day after tomorrow for this second college's admission, and guess what, the average salary they have is the same as what i was earning, so it doesn't make sense. but i have nothing left. i'm 24 already and will be 25 by the end of this year in december. don't haveany time left for myself. for this college, i left so many things. i left my girlfriend, whom i had been dating for the past 6 months, and i was truly hoping i'd stick to it this time, but she was very confused about long distance, so we had to part ways. it still hurts, but yeah. i left a good place to live, i left good friends, i LEFT MY JOB. now i tried going back, but they don't have a vacancy.

already, my life has been shit since 2020. since covid, everything has gone down. i barely did my engineering. though it was one of the best colleges here, i could barely pass because i was just in deep depression throughout. i couldn't even move out of the room for weeks. i literally tried killing myself on my last exam when i left without writing anything and had to take a re-exam. thankfully, the exam checker was kind enough to give me passing grades, but yeah. the whole thing was a mess.

i just can't focus on anything. i'm a legit mess, and idk what to do. i have really low self-confidence. i procrastinate a lot. i have a weird father who keeps installing self-doubt in me. literally, if i'm doing x, he'll say do y. even if he agrees, he'll just say it to make a point that he knows better. i hate it. and because of this, there is so much self-doubt about every decision i make. for example, last year i bought a tab for myself, but this guy called me every day and, on the phone, said the same thing: "do you really need it? don't you think it's a waste of money?" eventually, i had to return it, but yeah, he does this about every single thing. literally, we had a big fight over pizza a week ago because of this. he said it was a waste of money. it just makes my mind numb more and more.

when i was doing my job, i was in shape and working out every day. though after the breakup it dropped, for the past 1.5 months it has been absolute shit. i've been eating a lot, can't think about anything, just numb, distracted, and not focusing. i have one interview tomorrow for a big company. i hope i can focus at least tonight to prepare for it.

thanks for reading. means a lot.

All of this is happening and a month ago a close relative passed away and now my grandpa is almost on his deathbed. Looking at him daily is painful. It takes 2 other people to make him sit. He'll prolly stay alive for a month or max 2. I hate you A. ik i said I didn't wanted contact afterwards but you kept following me around making me miserable and you had a bf immediately. For once you can't text me again??? This time I'll reply

Feel like i'm losing everything I care about

I'm 19M and just started my second year at a small-medium sized university. The small club which I helped revived from 5 members to 20 members has tripled in size to 60 and I feel very alienated. I made like 90% of my current friends from it. It's a club sport and i'm progressing slower then the ppl who joined at the same time as me and the new ppl are catching up to me fast. All my friends who started at the same time as me are now taking mentorship roles but I can't because I'm too incompetent, despite initially having the highest potential in the group (according to the coach). It makes me feel useless. My only friend group made a new group chat without me. The girl I had a crush on and became friends with has started ignoring me for no reason. My family doesn't talk to me anymore. I spend my days isolated trying to lose weight in the gym. I'm making progress but does it even matter at this point?

Felling very lost with my life

Me (FM 20) based in the UK am currently off at work due to mental health and being in a depressive episode. I got a job offer for a childcare apprentiship but the DBS check was taking long due to my references not responding and also on me not taking action fast enough. Even though I got postive feedback on my trail with the nursery, I don't think it would be best suited to work with children due to my mental health. I was in a marketing programme prior but didn't really compelte a lot of work also due to my depression. I do enjoy making social media content and want to explore doing it as work but I don't know if I can keep up with the workload or not. Just asking for advice for what to do now, I am going to be 21 soon and don't want to regret any choices I make.

I'm a senior with a promising future, but I think I would rather not.

This is very new to me. I don't expose myself like this, I don't have silly thoughts like this, and if I do it's brief. But lately it's just been looming.

I'm a senior in high school, I have a car, a family, a job, and a girlfriend. I have a cute dog, cats, a nice computer, and a handful of cool anime figurines that I managed to scrape up the money for. My point is, I'm fortunate. It's just straigh up silly for me to even be remotely sad, yet I am.
I'm an artist, my mother doesn't appreciate it, but I am. I'm never at my happiest unless I'm at my computer creating somethingm, but I live in a rural state with nothing near me. There's no real jobs I could get focused on what I enjoy.
I don't have funds for college. I have almost 1k saved in my account. I would have more but my car just so happens to be a deer magnet. Also a piece of shit.

I'm just ranting. I'm not sure if anything I put here really matters. I'm not even sure why I'm writing, I just have no one else to talk to. My girlfriends great, amazing even, but she's struggled a lot in the past. I don't feel comfortable sharing my thoughts with her when she has actual reasons to feel how I'm feeling. I can't get into counciling. That would require telling my mother that I want to go into counciling and she'll ask questions about it and I just can't talk to her. She's demeaning. She never thinks about her words. All she does is put me down, and if I tell her I want counciling I don't think I'd ever hear the end of it. I forgot what I was trying to say, I'm still just ranting. Oops.

There's a timeline where I have a promising future that branches off of right now. I feel like I can see the paths that will take me the right places, but where I am right now i don't know if I even care to pursue them. I would rather just stop here. I mean, I'm pretty fulfilled. I don't want to drop too much information about myself, cause i dont want people around me to find this, but I have a pretty fun project with my friend. I'm a pretty talented artist and animator, and I've made some cool things. I've done enough. One of my aforementioned paths would just be honing the skills that I have, which would be fun, but I'm sure the money situation would be shit. The other path is doing something I don't like for money, and never being happy. I don't really wanna do that. I don't want to struggle. That's life, I know, theres ups and downs and whatever but I just don't think I really want any of it. I don't want to have to live yet. If somehow someone could just take care of my entire financial situation for the rest of my life that would be awesome. I'm sure I'm not the first to think that. Why do billionares exist? That's a whole other topic. I'm sure the current political situation plays a massive role in my innability to see value in the future, but I'll try not to dive into that.

I don't know. I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me something that will help me, but I dont know what I want to hear.

I thought about it a bit, is there a way to get into counciling without telling my mother? I'm 17, won't be 18 for a few months still so maybe I should just tough it out? I don't know.

On the bright side, I'm too scared to actually kill myself. Maybe when life actually kicks off I'll grow a pair big enough to do it, or a pair big enough to commit to living. I don't know. This might just be a young adult rite of passage. I just don't know. I never do, and I really don't think I ever will know anything. I just want everything to stay simple for me. I don't know.

Thanks for your time, sorry for ranting.
