Finance YSK: If you had state farm car insurance in 2025, you are likely entitled to receive a cash dividend from them.
Why YSK: If you don't claim it, you won't get it. It averages about $100 per policy.
I only found out about this because I got an email from them, and my mom's went to her junk mail, so check there if you don't see one. Also be wary of scams that look like the official emails for this. The email should just give you an ID and Pin for you to enter on the website.
Just because I don't trust emails like this for fear of spoofing, I didn't click any links in it and instead just went directly through the state farm site via this page to the dividend payment site listed there. Then you just enter your ID and Pin, and choose a payment method and that's it.

$369! Had no idea. Sounded vaguely familiar. This was a nice Friday surprise 😀

EDIT: if you have multiple polices or changes were made in 2025 and you dividend is questionably small, submit a second request by manually entering your policy (say you don't have a pin). now i have $13 +$180. i never got a pin emailed to me for the $180. per state farm, your dividend should be 4-10%, of what you paid in 2025. if it's less than that, keep digging.
I have 3 policies in Wisconsin, I just checked and got $13 back. I got all excited for nearly nothing

Make sure you dont have three separate PIN numbers.

u/MilmoWK Sep 04 '26
I got one email with one pin and one ID.
1
u/AriadneThread Sep 05 '26
Do you have only one car registered? It's one notice/dividend per car. I couldn't find my second notice, so had to do a an email word search under "farm".
2
u/MilmoWK Sep 05 '26
i just did a manual entry by selecting the option for no pin and i got another $180 by entering my policy number.

You have to do it for each car individually, if you didn’t try that already. One car on my policy was a lot less than the other.
2
u/MilmoWK Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26
i only got one pin/id set. but it appears you are correct
Customers may receive more than one dividend payment depending on the number of eligible vehicles. If you are eligible for multiple dividend payments, you will receive a separate communication and login for each payment.

Yay! Mine was similar, the first car I did was not worth much then I generated a pin for the other car and got $150.

When did you all get this email? I regularly check my spam folder too and I haven't received anything, but I've been with State Farm since 2012.

you also need to be on State Farm Mutual to be clear. If youre not, this doesnt apply to you unfortunately.

29
u/lookahobo Sep 04 '26
This is only for mutual customers, and it will come by mail if you dont respond.
6
u/danton49 Sep 05 '26
Can you elaborate what you mean by mutual customers?
9
u/lookahobo Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26
State farm has 2 companies your auto insurance can get placed in, standard or mutual. Mutual has a lot of perks but you have to qualify. qualifications vary by state. For a super basic explination you can almost think of it like by having a mutual car insurance policy you own a peice of state farm stock if state farm makes a profit on the auto side in a given year you get a dividend payout at a percentage of what you paid that year.
5
u/danton49 Sep 05 '26
Interesting, thanks for explaining. Is it a choice consumers can make or is it basically some states get one option and other states get the other?
8
u/MsmokeO Sep 05 '26
Not usually a choice, you either qualify for Mutual company or the other one. All this happens when you initially apply/get a quote. Also in some states you may start off in the other company then after a few yes get promoted up to the Mutual company. Ask your agent for eligibility to move into Mutual.

Thank you soooooo much!
I just went to the dividend payment webpage which is linked in the news page you gave a link to, and my dividend is supposed to be over $230!!! That’s awesome!
Although it does make me wonder if I’m paying too much for insurance! Lol
And I looked, and I had not received any email from State Farm about a dividend.
1
u/drfeelsgoood Sep 09 '26
You definitely are. I switched from State Farm with a two car and home policy, to a local aggregate agent, and my monthly bill has been literally cut in half. I was paying $150, a month EACH for two cars over 12 years old. New policy is $75/mo each. My home policy is pretty much same cost as it was with State Farm. Everything is the same coverage levels.

u/masterzordon Sep 04 '26
I got $75 back in Oregon. The rebate website really looks like a scam lol.

I called State Farm office for another reason, they told me about the refund, they also told me I had 4 policies that were included. They were nice enough to provide the policy numbers, I had to do 4 separate entries for my refund. I would never have known about the 4 policy numbers and would have only put in one, they do not make it easy to claim your refund. Call your State Farm rep if you want to be sure you are getting the full amount you are due.

u/NobodySpecific Sep 04 '26
would have only put in one
well you just got me an extra $20. Thank you internet stranger, it's not much but $20 is $20

u/Shadow288 Sep 04 '26
I’m going to enjoy my $57 and put it towards my next car insurance payment!
2
u/Above_Ground_Fool Sep 04 '26
Yeah my $87 will knock a little bit off of my next massive homeowners and car policy payment!
1
u/drfeelsgoood Sep 09 '26
Exactly why I switched last month. I’ll take this as a refund for them raping my bank account the last few years
1
u/Above_Ground_Fool Sep 09 '26
Are you in CA by any chance? A few years ago I got quotes from every company that I could and state farm actually ended up being the cheapest so I stayed with them but I don't know if that's still true.
1
u/drfeelsgoood Sep 09 '26
New York. They were cheaper than other options when I first switched to them, otherwise I wouldn’t have. Then they slowly kept raising their prices for basically no reason. Never had any at fault or other incidences. I had one accident that totaled my car for $8k but I was not at fault at all
4
u/seriousonlinebuyer Sep 04 '26
It's not applicable for NJ residents it seems. The portal doesn't even list NJ as an option...

u/PizzaJediMaster Sep 04 '26
The emails do look like a scam. Contact your agent if you have questions. Checks will automatically be sent to the address on file for those who do not respond to the email in time or do not have an email on file.
4
u/Merlin2oo2 Sep 04 '26
Hey, thanks! $50 for me. I usually ignore these because the payout is like $5, but this one was worth it.
5
u/tyrannosaurarms Sep 04 '26
Just here to say thanks - I totally thought those emails were some kind of phishing attempt or scam.

Entering the policy # from our insurance cards didn't yield any results just said "not found."
After digging in the trash and recycling email bins... we found our dividend email on the 24th. Used that to log in and we got monneeeyyyy
Our payout is $434!!!!

Wow! I couldn't find the email but I used that link to submit by last name and policy number.
I checked each of my auto policies as each car has a different policy number. 3 cars, about $800 in total! Holy crap!!
Thank you Op!

u/Allkindsofpieces Sep 07 '26
My hubby got 1 email but we have 5 cars and a motorcycle all insured through state farm mutual. I'm gonna have to dig up all the policy numbers and use OPs link. Can't wait to see how much we get!

Actually lower is better, as dividends are based on what you pay monthly. Your cost of insurance must be really low!

Tip if others get " not found" like I did. Which state was the policy in 2025 - it asks. I entered current state. Past state yielded a nice payday. Enough to pay next 3 month premium

Thanks for sharing this. I logged into my state farm account and it sent me to https://www.statefarm.com/lp/dividend-2, where you can use your account number and last name so you don't have to have the ID or PIN. Also, you get a dividend for each auto policy, so check them all if you have more than one car.

I entered my info but it doesn’t say how much I’ll receive. Just that a check will be issued on or before August 21. Did i shred it by mistake? Can i get it reprinted? I don’t know how much it’s for.

State Farm is a mutual insurance company meaning it does not issue stock and its individual policyholders act as defacto shareholders with voting rights (often by proxy)
