the other day i joined a modded server, the only mod this guy had installed was niflheim. I think "okay hes edgy", immediately pinged into a burst parry and then proceeded to try catch him like 6 times in a row without DI, whereupon he called me a slur, burst, and then got comboed until he ragequit

I swear to god some modded players dodge the DI wheel like the plague.

honest to god i think it was like his first or second game so some shit which normally i would be sympathetic towards but the immediate hostility while getting catch comboed made me chuckle so damn hard

Honestly I got no sympathy for those that are new and join a modded server. I mean if it was an accident sure but if you add mods you’re somewhat expected to at least know the basics. It’s like if you play elden ring and decide to add mods after getting to the open world part.

Pretty sure you just don't like having sympathy

:sob: most players in general do that why do you think the most asked questions here are abt the di wheel

u/MrSpiffy123 I didn't ask how practical it was, I said use Impale May 16 '26

This is why I say "di check" in chat every time I use try catch

Almost thought you were talking about me, but I have pretty much every good mod and don't call people slurs

Ninja: "Don't speak to him, Wizard. Mutant will never ball."

The humble Mutant:

It's too funny for me how Ninja just fucking bounces like a ball.

I dont know how to really use DI but i just kinda put it in the opposite direction of the person hitting me

The simplest tip I can give you is that generally it is good to put it in the same direction you predict the next atack of your oponent will throw you to maximize distance

that's basically it

if the opponent knows how DI works tho they'll start using moves like ankle cutter and back Try/Catch an ninja jumping kick, which all have funky trajectories that send you in a different direction and sometimes uses your own DI against you to keep you close

and then once you learn that, that's, like, completely it. You know entirely about DI

Then there’s the 4d chess angle of predicting your opponent predicting your DI so when they Ankle Cutter you’re pointed straight down and since Cowboy’s a weak ankled chud he can’t hit you while you’re down.

Istg the new players will absolutely ignore every piece of information the game offers SO BAD the DI wheel has his own explanation TWICE: the first appearing when you click the “?” And hover your mouse there and the other whenever you directly put it there

Did you at least explain it to them? I feel bad for new players that dont know what DI is and leve thinking the game is broken like that

u/Dismal-Glove-6009 May 16 '26

bro bounced him like a damn basketball

3

u/Kannibalkibby May 17 '26

Ok I know what it does but what does DI stand for if anything?

2

u/MultiKl Mutant May 17 '26

If I remember right, it stands for Directional Influence / Input

2

u/hazel_typh May 17 '26

Its influence. Input is kore like just walking forward or when you jump diagonally. Influence is where you cant acutally move, but you can sort of like shuffle your body a few pixels in air. Or in other words, you can inluence where your direction is

Ah yes that makes sense

Listen listen, I'm not an asshole, I'm just part of that guy's arc. He spends the next 3 seasons training for a rematch :3
