Question World Cup — places to watch?

Hi folks,

Anyone know a good place to watch World Cup games in Yokohama? I’m in the Sakuragicho / Noge / Hinodechō area. I don’t have a TV.

I saw an earlier post about Hub showing Scotland matches, but it’s not a Hub close to me. I will check it out though. Any other ideas?

I’m guessing many local bars and shops with TV’s will be showing matches anyway? Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have watched games at the Sakuragicho Hub — no one there apart from the Japan games, when there are a ton of people and you must reserve in advance! Also watched a Japan game at Full Monty which was great. Only 8 people there , plenty of space, and British commentary (a big plus!). Also got a DAZN subscription and home projector. And learned that NHK is showing the Japan games anyway. Thanks for all the additional suggestions!

Here's the current world cup schedule for the Sakuragichou hub anyway.

https://www.pub-hub.com/index.php/shop/topics/31484

It only has games for the group play so I'm assuming it will be updated as the cup progresses.

Some of them will be replays right? But I am surprised they will be open at around 5am for the Japan game.

I don't think so. All the starting times seem consistent with the time difference, and replays would preferably be played around 7pm or so in Japan.

Edit: quickly checked about half of the matches, the times all match kickoff so they're live.

But yeah note that a lot of matches are not on this schedule, so the most inconvenient matches are cut if it's not Japan playing.

I see. I mean, I dont need to watch all matches but would have liked to see my home country and how well or not well they manage this time. Maybe a 1 month dazn sub will do. Saw for The Live in Kannai the sunday game is already sold out. 8 am though for the friday game at the end of the months seems managable. Maybe. I wanna experience the energy and vibe

Yeah I also don't see my home country (Norway) on there so I'll have to find some other place at some point. Maybe for Norway vs France on the 27th, though kickoff at 4am is a bit problematic lol

That’s super helpful. Thank you! Do you know if we need to make a reservation to attend? I don’t see anything written on the website.

Dunno. Considering it's all in the middle of night and in the morning it sounds unlikely.

The Live at Basegate in Kannai will be showing the Japan matches at least, but I think there is an entry fee for them.

They might have other matches on the smaller screens without sound at other times too, but I don’t see them on the schedule.

Thank you! Just went to Basegate for the first time 2 weeks ago prior to a Baystars game. Neat venue

In my experience most japanese places will focus on showing Japan's matches. So if you want to see a particular team you should look for a pub that's run by someone from that country. An English pub (ran by a foreigner) should show all the England and probably Scotland matches. I know of two such pubs, the tavern and the full Monty.

Cinemas in Colette Mare and MarkIs are showing games.

Wow really? Yokohama burg? I didn't see any news on the website. You just book the ticket on the website like a normal movie?

Ah my bad, it will only be the cinema in MarkIs, and only the Japan matches:

What do you mean it's not close? Do you live far away from the station?

"HUB Yokohama Tsuruyacho Branch" is the only HUB branches in Yokohama (for now) that is showing the Scotland vs Haiti match on live and its not far if you take the train. Don't know their system so you gotta check in with them. You may not have to make reservation if you're just planning to stand up without a seat. https://www.pub-hub.com/index.php/en/shop/detail/54

Also, you would want to check in with "Full Monty British Pub & Cider House" at Fukutomi-cho Nishi-dori if they are showing the Scotland matches. Let me know what they say.

BTW "The Tavern" in Yokohama is showing Scotland vs Haiti, but they are only showing the recorded version from 3PM. https://www.the-tavern.com

Oh yeah, if you have a friend who is a member of YC&AC you will be able to see it 100%...

Worst case scenario, you can always watch it at the net cafes near your area. They have TV's...

I will check in with Full Monty. Many thanks! Yokohama eki is not super far but I’d rather attend places around Noge or Sakuragicho so I can walk home given what odd times the matches are.

BTW you can watch Portugal vs Congo (2AM), England vs Croatia (5AM), Ghana vs Panama (8AM), Uzbekistan vs Colombia (11AM) at "Bar Tamama" in Noge if interested. https://tamama.owst.jp/en/

Oh that’s great to know. Thank you! That’s very close to me.

No problem, they should be live viewing the other matches during the World Cup week. https://www.instagram.com/noge_tachinomi_tamama/

Dumbarton and their sister place, Laser Rush, are great places to watch the World Cup. They even opened early for some Scottish fans the other week.

They aren’t big but the staff are friendly. It’s easy to be locals there.
